I called the Liberty a truck again. My wife says that the Jeep is NOT a truck, definitely!

I want to settle this once and for all.
Now I don't want to skew the polls or anything but I say "Is a truck".

I call her my truck, also...and gets reprimanded "It's a Jeep, not a truck."

Liberty is not a truck, it is a Jeep or SUV. Even my F150 is not a truck, it is a pickup. I grew up on a farm where we had real trucks for hauling grain, etc. In my opinion it isn't a truck until it has three or more axles.

Well I voted truck. Unlike Caddis, I've never had a "real" truck. So, I think this is the closest I'll ever get. Besides, mine is a diesel w/tow package, so it can haul stuff  right?

It's either strange or funny that my wife and I argue about the same thing. I just say truck for lack of better words at the time and every time she says "Its a JEEP or SUV!!!!"

Well ask any truck guy and it'll definitly NOT be a truck. I have an F-250 and an SUV is NOT a truck. I don't care if it's an Explorer (which I also have) Taho, Excursion, or Libberty. If it doesn't have a bed on the back then it's NOT a truck. And yuppy rigs like the Avalanch I guess you could technically call a truck but they are more just a wanna be.

It seems most city slicker/suburbanites drive cars so anything taller than a normal sedan they consider a truck but I don't think they really have a clear perspective as most of them haven't driven anything bigger than a minivan.

I don't mean to come off sounding harsh but I'm a bit of a purist, especially when it comes to my vehicles. :)

I've got a 2006 Liberty CRD and a 99 dodge/cummins 2500. Trust me, the Liberty ain't a truck. I had guys looking at me funny the first time I showed up at deer camp with the Liberty. They did think it was cool when I pointed out the diesel motor to them, no one had ever seen one. I wasn't brave enough to use the word "truck" about the liberty though, at least not amongst a group of 10 guys who were all driving real trucks.

It gets style points for being a jeep though. I simply say "the jeep" when talking about it.

You'd have to be from New York or L.A. to call the liberty a truck, otherwise be prepared to be laughed at.

I think the original's were 1/4 ton trucks

and my CRD can haul / tow more than the Willy's

and an F150 - is typically rated 1/2 ton - although physical carrying capacity is greater.

Agreed. I call my Explorer my Explorer, not a car or a truck as it doesn't really fit in both and calling it an SUV all the time is just cumbersome. The Libby easily falls in the "Jeep" catagory so I'm sure it'll either be called Jeep or Libby.

You can "haul" stuff with it like your luggage when you go on vacation, grocieries, your dog, etc. But with the lack of an actual bed I don't think you can really it "hauls" stuff as it doesn't really have anywhere to haul anything, ie, lumber, gravel, barkdust, bikes, etc.

I voted truck, because what I really call the thing... Isn't polite enough to make it past the bad word sensor here.

I have driven everything up to a fully loaded straight 24' box (See, I even KNOW what it is called!) and pulled as much as 75% of my length in a trailer, and fully 130% of the weight of the towing vehicle at times... So I think I know what I speak of.

The Jeep RIDES like a truck, hauls (at least mine has) like a truck, PULLS (again, mine has) like a truck... Ergo.

You want to know what an SUV is... Just ask the new head of Fiat/Mopar, a Mr Sergio Manahmanah about his views for the new "Liberty SUV" line:

Sports-Car-based performance
Car-based chassis
FWD with a pansy-arse AWD wanna-be
Pretend "trail rated" badges, because of all the previous stuff he said.

Yea... Our Liberty is a truck, compared to THAT abomination, whenever they release it (I predict about 8 months before they re-enter bankruptcy)

A car is a car and made to get you places on pavement.

A truck is made primarily to haul stuff. Although some are 4X4 and capable off pavement, that is not usually their primary usage and you can't turn one around worth a crap on a narrow trail.

A Jeep is a Jeep. Made so it can take you places off-pavement/and back. Can make a U-turn on a narrow trail and good in snow to boot... :pepper: .....

A KJ is a Jeep.....

:ROTFL: Sorry I really don't mean to come off as rude (probably to late) but, you've pulled about an 8'-10' trailer that weighed 5K lbs. and drove a "box"(van I assume? U-haul?) and claim your Jeep RIDES like a truck as your qualification? My actual truck by itself is probably as long as your Liberty+75% and the trailer I pull with it is probably about equal to your Libberty +130% of the weight. I guess you could say that it drives like one of the newer wussified 1/2 ton trucks or maybe like a compact pickup but it drives nothing like a real TRUCK. I think you've done a fantastic job proving my above point. ;)

Again not trying to be rude but just as many Jeep guys are pureists with their jeeps I'm a bit of a pureist with my trucks.

I had my window den this summer at a light. A "friend" pulled up in his F350 w/ modified exhaust. He told me his truck sounds like what my Liberty will sound like when it grows up.
Sigh, he was right. I'm at peace. It is not a truck. It is a Jeep.

Jeeps are the original SUV.The KJ is not a truck,in some states it's actually considered a station wagon. If your KJ rides like a truck you got issues, big issues.A truck has some sort of bed,be it a flat bed, dump bed,or just a regular bed and the KJ has none of those.

It is a bit of an odd duck. More of a truck than the wife's Mercedes SL, but it's certainly not a truck per se. Doesn't quite seem like an SUV either since most of those were and many still are basically trucks with enclosed beds nor like the newer generation of SUVs that are minivans with a front hood. Doesn't really fit with the classic Wranglers and Cherokees either with its rounded edges and curves and a more unibody type construction with less subframe.

Months after I bought it we had stopped by the drug store for something. The wife ran in while I idled curbside. There was a street person pacing back and forth in front of the store clearly responding to various hallucinations and mumbling to himself. He paused at my open driver's side window and asked, "Why does your car sound like a lawn mower?"

I suppose "lawn mower" fits as well as anything else.
