Anyone have their old no good alternator they want to get rid of. I need a spare to send off so the alt company can make me a 270 amper.

That is not possible with our current size of alternator. The housing needs to be larger in diameter and/or longer. This is necessary to put in 3X more windings and more steel (core) to achieve this.

If they tell you they can do it, then it will only output the higher current at about 3K engine rpm and will output much less at the lower rpm's then the current stock setup.

I adivise you not to just take my word for it, but to go to a real alternator shop and look at the size of a 200+ Amp alt and then ask yourself: Just how in the world are they going to stuff all of that in that little package?

Answer: It's not going to fit.

I am very familiar with electronics. I compete on the national level. This is possible. I've talked to both mechman and tenney and they need the casing to assure proper bolt patern. I'm aware of the rpm issues. I will only need it when I'm in the lanes so idle output I could care less. I have had mine off and a large case gm alt fits in there, it's just a matter of bolting it up.

So once again. I just need a junk alternator and no comments telling me it can't be done

Ok, this is cool. Can you post some pics and what you had to do to get this done?
I am interested too.

I don't have that alternator on my crd. This is my daily driver and I had some extra time and was curious to see if it could be crammed on there. When I figured out it was possible I bolted my factory one back.

If both companies can fit quads on a Tahoe than this is def possible.

I can post pics of the finish product.

This is the start of the inside

I have yet to understand what it is that you are doing...

You ask for a junk alternator and you are sealing shut the rear cargo bay of your CRD?

Stereo competition. I'm building a c-pillar wall.

I need a junk alt so my alt company can make me a bigger one from it

I still have mine that needed to go back to autozone for my $66 core charge. For $66 + actual shipping, I'll send it out to you.
