My birthday is coming up and I'd like to grab one of these. There's other things I'd rather get for my jeep, but this one is affordable for a gift lol. Or so I think.

I want one of those portable air compressors that hook up to the battery, not the +12V accessory outlet. Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can get one from? Thanks!!

Whatever you get, just make sure it has enough duty cycle to air up all 4 tires. Viair and Smittybilt are a couple that make them. With the Smittybilt get the higher output one as the standard units are only good for a couple of tires before they have to cool down.

It is the exact same as the Viair 400P Brand (http://www.viaircorp.com/400P.html)

Will inflate a 31" tire from ~15-~35PSI in about 1:15-1:30. These are my calculations.
They say max time before you need to turn it off is 40 minutes, so at about 5-6 minutes to fill four tires, you can fill at least four trucks before you need to give it a break.

It is Cheaper, and it comes with a couple extra accessories. It comes with a handy bag to store/transport everything with.

EDIT: Of course, just like everything else, go with what you can afford and how and how often you will use it.
I burnt out a "cheaper" air compressor because I was using it 1-2 times a week all summer. It also took about twenty plus minutes to fill up my truck versus the replacement which take 5-6 minutes.

We started out with a $60.00 Viair clone from Harbor Freight

It served us well for the first couple of years.
Aired up 31" tires in about two minutes.
Then when we had ARB front and rear air lockers installed we went with an ARB CKMA12.

I would of gone for the CKMTA12 with 100% duty cycle but there wasn't enough room under the hood. That and I got a wicked deal on the one we have.
It fills tires in no time! Not to mention it also locks the lockers of course.
You do get what you pay for.

This is the one I have. Works good. Around two min to air up a 31 inch tire from 22 to 35.

I have the CKMA12 for a on-board air compressor,and your right it is a very nice compressor,airs up my 35" tires from 10psi to 28psi in less then 2 mins each.I have it bolted to my tool box in the back and ran 8g wire from the battery.

I should have waited a few weeks though as the dual version came out and not that much more $$$.

Ya looking back, had I waited another 5-6 days I would of gone for the CKMTA 12 as well.
I would of made it fit!
