So your timing belt and water pump was changed at 177k for the first time?
How long have you owned it? Any chance a previous owner changed it?
177k is a long time on a timing belt!

Kind of looking like leave the water pump in there the first time around. ? :pepper:
I have 86k on mine and I think I will do the belt this spring and leave the water pump alone. The thermostat gave out some time ago - I have a in line in there with no problems.

This week I've talked to three people with OE water pump failures:

1) 80k, took out belt.
2) 104k, gushing coolant
3) 90k, overheating due to impeller breaking off

Regarding the Crown pumps. I've met many times with the product engineering team, we designed an updated unit with a much stronger bearing. These also use metal impellers, which I am a fan of. Currently 5 of the new units are in testing, its been 6 months and over 10k for some vehicles - so far things are going very well.
