The only thing I will chime in is that I did the day star lift kit, kept the same shocks and all. I threw on 265/70 toyo open country a/t on it, I personally like the ride. I will upgrade the rear shocks next year bc I only have 3,500 miles on my jeep. I almost lost the jeep in hurricane sandy so I need a quick cheep lift and I love it. I'm already offered 2 photo shoots for it too. I sold my 2010 ram sport for a 2012 arctic jeep......

KKs are pretty common on the island, but a lifted KK is rare. Not counting the few from LOST I think I've only seen 1 or 2 lifted KKs. Now what is really rare is a sfa KJ that's running around the island lol.

But why a photo shoot ? I mean if it was something special and had some mods . Sorry not slamming your ride but with just a cheap lift.......... :? Guess I don't get it?!!

It's all good, who knows its a cheap kit when just looking at it? Like we said, out here there isn't anybody with a lift kit. People don't realize it's a liberty because all the paint work.... When you see a picture of it, you'll see it doesn't look like a liberty but to each it's own.

I guess I'm so used to seeing so many that are tricked out that I find it funny that any one would actually want to do a photo shoot. Sorry just difference in areas.
But then its like when my wife was teaching at Harvard, was over visiting her and this guy had a Wrangler with all the chrome you could legally hang on a vehicle. they were taking photos of it in front of this one old building. He was bragging about having a real Jeep and pointed at mine and said Not like that muddy poser over there! Yes I stopped and did some trails on my way over there. Who had the real Jeep ???

I like chrome. Some vehicles/colors look good with some chrome. You just have to take care of it and clean it. But I am against people putting all those fake chrome decal things on cars and chrome exhaust tips etc. Things like the chrome trim on Libertys and chrome or polished wheels are nice.

Been trolling the threads trying to get a handle on whats good, whats cheap, whats bad and cheap, etc. Wife gave me a xmas card for a lift (yay  ) that I've been wanting for while.

I'm looking for a 2-3 inch lift. I've looked at jeepinbyal and RRO. I'm not looking to build a rockcrawler but just looking to beef up the suspension and gaining some ground clearance in the process. All the extra armor I've added seems may be keeping all 4 tires planted on the ground but it's starting to (or at least feels like it) get closer to the ground then I would like and has kept me from doing much off roading. Not that I do a bunch but nice to know I won't leave a part or two behind when I do take it off road. I currently have 255/65 16's Hancook ATM's with future thoughts of going to a 17/18 inch wheel.

I've already decided against spring compression. No DAYSTAR for me (and the Jeep dealer guy who is doing this said they won't sell DS's anymore.
I've been looking at OME. There's one that says 1.50 lift for 750.00 and has all 4 springs/shocks. I'm adding the A arm kit but says nothing about bumpers. I assume though I need these regardless what kit I get. SO, look likes I'm around the 1200.00 mark.

The other kit (ROCKFATHER DELUXE) from Rocky Road Outfitters. It has everything but rear springs. It's going to run around 1100.00, so if any thing, looks like I'm going to drop up to 1200.00 and that's including labor.

Left msg for jeepinbyal to call me (questions if the bump stoppers are part of the kit or cost).

I'm sure I can shop around, get something close to if not the same hardware and some places will even give a military discount but there seems to be more people going to RRO and Jeepinbyal I've kinda zero'd in on them.

I started with the RRO over the top spacer lift and I wasn't very happy with it. It uses the stock suspension and just adds 2" spacers and rear shocks. The front shocks would bottom out all the time even with extended bump stops. I was looking at their setup with the 1 1/2" (actually 3/4") extended top plate and OME springs. Didn't seem like a good choice. I looked at JBA's site and saw the OME setup. I added two 1/4" spacer plates above the front coilovers, JBA upper control arms, teraflex bumpstops, 3/8" clevis lift and the 2" spacer from my old lift on the rear along with another mopar spring isolator. The ride is incredibly stable, firm but not stiff and I think I have enough clearance to run 31"x10.5-15 tires, of course the rims need enough backspace to clear the lower ball joint bolt (3 3/4"). There may need to be a little pounding and trimming but they should fit ok. The only way I'd change the setup I have would be to put a JBA 4" lift on.
Jeepin by Al is a top notch company that standa behind their products 100% and the owner is a pretty good guy to deal with especially if you have questions, even problems.
I don't regret a penny of the purchase from JBA except that I wish I'd done that one first. Personally, I wouldn't buy the lift anywhere else. I will probably go there for my lockers and gears as well, just need a few more bucks.
The adjust a strut 2 1/2" lift is also a good option if you have the cash. They built that one with Offroad racing components.
Hope this helps.

Do people not read anymore ? Just curious since this comes up all of the time. Please read on what works and what doesn't before you end up wasting your $$$ on a kit from somewhere like RRO.
Bump stoppers???? Bump stops are not included and more people are NOT going to RRO, only ones who do not read and ask questions

I read around the boards and came to the conclusion that the JBA 2.5"Adjustable with UCAs and rear springs was the only way to go.
Spend the money. Its sooo worth it.

EDIT:

Tom, what works for one person may not be what the 'other' person wants. It's not the "kit" that's the problem you seem to have with RRO but a hair up your rear about the place and after talking to someone who sounded like they just got out of bed or had better things to do, I can understand your feelings. I can buy OME kits from just about one half dozen other places. I can get a military discount from one place but not another. It all came down to the general attitude and sound of the persons voice that sold me. OME's from JBA are no better then OME kits from RRO (JMO) I ended up getting the kit I wanted from jeepsbyal. 4 shocks and 4 springs and A arms. They told me I didn't need bumper stops but that's not what I'm hearing here. So, when it's time to install the hardware, if the offroad expert who has done dozens of KK's think I need'em, then I'll get them.Parts are already in-route. The ONLY thing I didn't like was the fact they were coming in separate shipments. I was told this up front but as long as I got them within a week (not the 3 from RRO) I would be fine. Cost was about the same except RRO didn't offer rear springs for some reason. So, I've ordered my 3inch lift, came in just over 1100.00 plus shipping. Once I have all the parts in hand, I'll make the appointment. The jeep will be in the shop for a bit. Still got the front right corner to fix from the 20lb Canadian goose who wanted a closer look of my right front fender. :frankie:

So yes tom, we read and not just LOSTKJS. Some of us who don't have a clueeven take the advice of others  However, as one who has no plans to make the meca trip to MOAB, the 1262.00 I'm spending at JBA will suit me just fine for the snow, mud and ruts I encounter around my Michigan landscape.
So, thanks to all the feedback, PM's and experiences everyone has posted here. This is the LAST major expense I plan on putting on my jeep (well, there may be a set of 17inch wheels next go around when I need some new rubber). :JEEPIN:

I'll post some pic's before and after when it's done..

A picture when it still smelled new and was 100% stock

Nice. I didn't opt for the adjustable shocks, nor did I get the shinny ones :2cents: Not sure what having adjustable would do for me as I asked for the HD springs and shocks to get the pre 2008 ride. I assume in about 30k miles, it should be bladder friendly. :dizzy:

But I remember mine being that clean. It was when it was being offloaded off the car carrier.

Those are coilovers, the ride height is adjustable in the front.

What do you mean pre 2008 ride? The front is the same as a kj, the rear was reconfigured a little by ditching the boomerang for a track bar, thats about it...

You need to calm down some and step back and read
No where did I say anything about buying a more expensive kit
Look what I run ....OME springs etc
And as far as Marlin reselling OME, WTH do you think every shop does? Everyone resells even your local grocery store.
I just don't get when people waste money on a Daystar etc and then say well thats all I can afford now, I'll do it right in 3 or 4 months  Ya don't have to lift today or die. Do it right the first time .
Carry on

The Adjust-a-strut just allows you to adjust the front lift height to your personal liking based on how the rear comes out. It also compensates for springs sagging over time or from heavier front accessories. I like my lifts just barely nose low and its a crap shoot on how things will look as the general public opts for the nose high "level" look

As it came, the rears gave 3 inches so I was able to adjust up to get the rake just right.

The shiny shocks are actually the cheapest option.

Mine don't. The adjust a strut only increases or decreases compression on the spring.

Nice. I didn't opt for the adjustable shocks, nor did I get the shinny ones :2cents: Not sure what having adjustable would do for me

If you have JBA's adjust a struts, the nut moves down from the top causing the spring to be lowered in relation to the shock. It shouldn't compress the spring any more than the weight of the vehicle. I'm pretty sure that's the design anyway. They're also supposed to be the smoothest option available. :2cents:
