Hello Folks:

Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket repair insurance or extended warranty for the Liberty CRD. I have been approached and am tempted to consider buying this insurance. I normally do not buy any extended coverage because I don't think it is a good value. However, with the potential of a broken cam belt, turbo issues, transmission torque converter issues, etc. and their potential cost, I'm tempted to buy this protection becasue of all the horror stories I read about in this site.

The coverage is offered by Naviss and they appear to be a legitimate company. They have offered 4 years and 60000 miles of coverage for $2900. Expensive, but with the potential of torque converter, turbo, and cam belt repair costs, as I said I'm tempted. I have 69000 miles on teh car and have not experienced any concerns or problems, but am worried that the cam belt might break catastrophically before 100,000 miles because of age and without warning.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was tempted too but these insurances will not take kindly to you doing your own PM and can deny the claim based on that for me the red flag was the dealer who sold me the car was insisting on selling the warranty and yet oblivious to TB belt replacement and even when i pointed it out to him that it is due his response was buy the warranty and do not bother about TB service.......so i skipped the warranty and got the required service done.

There have been a couple of mechanic types who went through the hoops that you have to jump through to get a aftermarket warranty to pay
- and the overwhelming evidence is that they don't
- they grab any excuse no matter how illogical and deny the claim.

Most are a joke and you really need to read the fine print. Most do not cover gaskets after 100k,and almost all never cover any fluids. Some of the worst ones require you to pay the bill and then wait(and hope) you get reimbursed and they will only pay for the cheapest part so no OE parts and most likely no lifetime warranty parts.

Dealt with some at work and they are a nightmare, can take a week or more to get a answer and always undercut what they will pay big time so no shop wants to do the work and still be able to make a profit.Had a customer with a suzuki that needed a alternator, the only on available in the state was one from a dealership which was $210 our cost and would only pay $36 which was there cost on a remaned one with a 90 day warranty in Washington state(were they are located).

It isn't often that I agree with anything TJKJ says... But in this instance, I can.

Anything from the 'insurance' category is preying on your fears, and selling you a very expensive 'good feeling' and not much more. Why do I say that? Because you will get a 'good feeling' from having it... As long as you don't NEED it. The instant you do need it... You will learn that their entire existence is based on taking your money, and doing everything possible (and dirty / underhanded / just plain mean) to NEVER GIVE IT BACK.

If they can reduce the payout amount by even a dollar... That is one more dollar that they get to keep as corporate profits. Never forget that the insurance company is a for-profit business, and they ONLY make profits when you pay them... And they don't have to pay you back.

Any excuse to deny a claim... Is exactly what they will use. You will be better off putting that $2900 into a coffee can and burying it in the back yard - not like you'd get any interest from a BANK for it anyway, and at least then you'd have $2900 for a future repair that might not happen.

All extended warranties services . . .whether they will actually pay or not are betting nothing will happen to your vehicle, electronic device, whatever.

By buying one, you're placing a bet that something will go wrong and they will pay. No savvy gambler would take the bet. All extended warranties are big profit makers for those that sell them. The profit they make is your money.
