and if it significantly different - what temperatures are you having issues with?

When I say the 7v's work as well as the ceramics....

On paper they need an extra second or 2 to heat up, but I honestly haven't noticed any difference vs the ceramics when they were working.

seeing as how the ceramics run the risk of destroying the engine........ they may not be the best "overall" metric.....
but to answer your question: does the darn thing start well when it's cold out? yes, so far the 7v metal ones have worked great for me....

now maybe if you had 2 identical jeeps, one with ceramics, and one with the 7 volt metals, and you only waited 3 seconds, you might see a difference.....

I am curious to see reports this week from folk with the updated Mopar 5v kits. It is supposed to get bitter cold, at least here in PA. I am going to get my ceramics replaced for the 5v kit as soon as I can. I have the kit, just need to get it to my trustworthy dealer for replacement. Any idea on what it should cost labor wise for replacement?

There are varying quotes you can get on the install i talked to two local dealers both agreed on 2 hours of labour at shop rate of 125 per hour now one dealer said ECM upgrade no problems it is part of install so no extra charges while the other wanted 50 bucks extra to flash and upgrade the ECM so just talk to them and see what they say......

5 volts but #2 glow plug burnt out after 1 year and 15,000 miles. The dealer only item won't let you buy just one.

I have to share how happy I am about my GDE tune. Ever since I had the 5 volt plugs installed by my Jeep dealer, it would not start at temps below 20 degrees if I did not plug it in.

I had Keith give me the old 7volt logic in the tune I just bought and last night it got down to
-20 and I left unpluggedged. This morning it popped right off like nothing.

I know that I'll get a shorter life out of the 5 volt plugs running the 7 volt logic but I don't care as long as I can start it in winter.

You might not be quite so keen when it comes time to replace them. Google swollen glow plugs :grim:

They deform even with the specified voltage if left in the head for any length of time once they burn out. I have a set of 7 volt ceramic plugs to go back in once the 5 volters go bad (thanks again Keith).
