Happened 30 mins into my commute today when I was maybe 5 minutes from reaching home.

Out of nowhere a chime rang, all dash lights lit up, concluding with the seatbelt light and seatbelt chime (my seatbelt was on the whole time) before it went back to normal after about 5-10 seconds.

I read that it could be the battery, and I checked it. Optima Yellow Top, registered just under 13v while the Jeep was off and 14.5V when the Jeep was on as well as headlights, heat, etc. Since it was higher when the Jeep was on, I figured my alternator is fine too.

Could anything else have caused this? Keep in mind Maryland has just recently seen snow accumulations and the salt on the roads was tremendous, she looked like this just yesterday but I managed to wash most of it off. I can't imagine this being the cause of anything, but then again what do I know? :?

That's weird.
Check your fuses and make sure they're not blown.

I will check the fuses and PCM today.

Another weird thing that happened today is a random chime that goes off randomly with no indicator dash lights. :|

I had this on my 2002 CRD....would chime and show nothing but in my case the engine would cut out but would re-start.
Turned out there was a wiring problem which caused the charge voltage to go up to about 17 volts at which time the ECU shut everything down.

You sure you are not getting something in your odometer display such as "glass" or "washer fluid" ? :?

BillWill, it turns out the chimes came from low washer fluid warning - which only popped up for not even a second because a "bad/missing" tpms sensor message follows it (pretty sure it's the sensor in the spare because all 4 tire sensors on the road still register).

Today the Jeep died at my work's parking garage. It seems like it has to be the battery at this point. Bought my yellow top optima February 2010 and it came with a standard 36 month warranty - right now it's the 35 month and I called Advance Auto and I'll be receiving a free replacement once I get jumped and head over there.

The optima batteries aren't what they used to be. I've read a couple threads on different forums pointing out how the quality of optima batteries has dropped considerably since Johnson Controls bought the company and moved at least part of the production out of the US. They also changed the warranty by dropping the length. The popular replacement seems to be odessey batteries. I think I read that they (odessey) make batteries for sears. Maybe they'll give you a refund so you can buy a better battery. :2cents: check to see of it gets hot before you replace it, that was one of the symptoms I think.

Ted15, thanks for the advice. I'm stuck with the free replacement yellow top for now.

Had an eventful night actually...

- Jeep was dead in the parking garage at my job.
- Waited an hour for my brother to show up and jump start it.
- Got it jumped, sat for a while, and was able to get out the parking garage but it died again at an intersection.
- Got it towed to Advance Auto.
- Got the battery replaced for free and tried to drive away BUT the tow truck ripped a boot or something and my power steering leaked all over the parking lot.
- Got it towed AGAIN but this time to my mechanic

:(
