Hello,
We just bought a used 2005 Liberty Sport CRD on Thursday with about 8000 miles on it. We're very pleased with it, and it's a very nice vehicle. However, we had a little bit of trouble with the transmission today. When the engine was cold and we first put it in Reverse, the engine dragged like we were riding the brakes. Then, it started shuddering violently and killed the engine. When it's warm, it shifts great and everything is fine. Has anyone else had a similar problem or heard of one?? What would be some possible fixes?? Thank you so much for your help!

Your torque converter was probably empty. First, let it idle 30 seconds so the transmission reprimes and refills the torque converter. Second, get to the dealership and have the latest transmission filter TSB performed. You can find it with a search in this section.

Had the exact same thing happen, only once though. It was cold, I put it in reverse and the engine shudderd and finally died. Since then I always let it idle for a short time in the mornings. Never happened again.
