Just wanted to let you guys know about my experience with GDE. I bought an ECO tune two years ago when I bought my jeep. I have been very happy with it since then. I had trouble passing the Oregon State emissions test, as the EGR readiness monitors showed as "unready". Even though it has been 2 years, Keith sent me several different tunes that I tried out until it now passes the emissions testing with no problems. His response was first rate, he worked until the problem was solved, and always returned the next version of the tune very quickly. All this for a product he sold two years ago!

I work in customer service, and wanted to publicly commend him, as this type of service is rare.

Jason

I had a similar experience with Keith

He essentially provided me with free tech support on the phone as I stumbled my way though figuring out my valve-train and head gasket issue....

he also made me a custom tune that performs perfectly......

X 3. Keith was really indulgent with me and gave me some custom tweaks to shut off a couple of issues for me which were tripping the CEL as well as reverting my glow plug logic back to 7 volts. It was -22 degrees this morning and started right up. I haven't been able to do that since Jeep did the 5 volt "starting enhancement" reflash.

Hello Jason,

I too have the GDE Eco-Tune and just failed the Oregon DEQ. I contacted GDE and they have sent me a new tune.

Turns out I can only install via Vista or Windows 7 and will have to visit a friend who still has Vista to update my OBD Flash Scanner.

When you went thru the process of getting new tunes and attempting to pass DEQ, how did you go about it?
Did you have to tell them you had a Computer Tune when you returned?
Did you have to pretend you went to the Dealer to have the vehicle checked?
Did you find a way to test without going to DEQ first?

Just curious as to how much hassle DEQ gave you.

Thanks,
Joe

I'm curious what they failed you for. My gde tuned rides have always passed Colorado emissions where they floor it and check for smoke opacity.

They did not do the complicated plug the stick in the pipe and floor it method. This time they plugged the vehicle into a computer so they could detect the primary components:
Misfire, Fuel System, Component, EGR/VVT. These were all supposed to return READY. But my EGR/VVT returned undetected/unsupported when it should have returned READY.

Another interesting thing is that I don't have an engine light during normal running. However, when they plugged into the computer the Engine light lite up and they started questioning that too.

I can only assume you are using Linux or a Mac?

I use Linux with virtualbox,

if you need windoze to run on it you can get it here.

Ahh, no. I have Windows 8. I should have mentioned that. I tried to run the Flash Scan Tool in admin mode as well as compatibility mode for Vista and XP, but for some reason it just would not link. I finally got a hold of an older Vista machine and installed it from there. I never got around to trying a Virtualbox or Virtual PC. But I have it working now.
