I was driving down the highway this morning with my heater set to the front/ feet setting when all of a sudden it stopped blowing air. I turned the air up and heard it blowing from the vents up by the windshield. I changed it to each setting to find that it would only blow from those vents. This happened in the heat and AC settings. My question is what happenend? Is this an easy fix or a nightmare?

The vents are controlled by a vacuum pipe that supplies vacuum from the intake manifold...same place as the brake servo....into an assembly under the dashboard.

If this vacuum pipe falls off...you get those exact symptoms of all the air going through the windscreen de-mister vents only.

Thanks I will have to look into that.

*Update- So during my lunch break I went out to try to figure this monkey out. This only added to my confusion :? . So, right now it will work in all positions only if I select the de-mister vents first and then move counter clockwise through each position. It seems that if I go clock wise through the positions is when it gets stuck on the de-mister vents. I am thoroughly confused at this point. Any help would be much appreciated.

You may have to drop the whole vent assembly....it is in the Service manual for your year model which you can download here courtesy of Sir Sam:

I was having an issue where after having the heater going for a long period of time it would sound like it was moving air but very little was coming out the main vents, no matter what setting I had it on. This happened for a year before my AC compressor decided to die, once it was replaced I have not had this issue again. Don't know if that helps with your matter or not, but sounds similar to me.
