Not that I know of; plenty of folks run it briefly (a few seconds) with the radiator off.

Note:
CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER HEAD. And the filter.

Yeah I'm planning on it. But right now I'm just changing the filter to try to get it running. Waiting on a timing belt/ water pump kit.

I change mine like a oil filter from under the truck. Five min deal . I change mine 2 times a year seems to work well. I also keep one in the back so I can change on the road.

Yes, I keep extras in my Cummins truck, just cause you never know when you might need it. This whole liberty deal just caught me of guard because it all happened the first day I drove it. I did verify the timing is good. So that's a bit of relief. Now to figure out if it's actually a fuel issue and what the issues are.

I appreciate all the help!

With respect, you appear to be assuming things that are not yet proven. :2cents:

The fact that the cams are in time one to the other does NOT mean that all is well under the intake manifold/camshaft holder. Sir Sam can point to at least two CRDs with severely damaged rockers that were in time and showed no TB damage, and I have read here of others. Verifying lack of fuel issues is an essential first step, but by no means the only one. OTOH, it may well be that fuel issues are all you have now.

Did I say anything about the rockers being ok? No.

I simply stated that it was in time. To do that I basically had to get to the timing belt.

With all respect, I never said anything about being a master diesel tech. These Libby s are new to me, and a lot different than a Cummins like I'm used to.
I am learning a lot here, so if you want to be a $& about things, I'll go elsewhere.

I intended no offense, just wanted you not to jump at conclusions, having done so any number of times myself. Since it is possible to access both of the cam timing ports without taking off the serpentine belt, I figured that whatever had indicated a rocker issue to you might still be in play.

I'm not a master diesel mechanic either, and I have listened with interest to what those here have to say. With that, I will leave you to your adventure.

No...it wont hurt anything. Just don't let anything get sucked in.

Let us know how it sounds with the intake hose off. Hope its not popping and blowing.

Good luck

Well........... pulled the intake/valve cover today. There was at least 2 broken rockers. So, time to order parts and once its running again, send the ecm to GDE.

Wow, you are like the second member in the past month, with a new to you CRD that has had it grenade within a very short period of ownership.

Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks. I think it'll be fine after they're all replaced. Just sucks I have to drop that much coin to fix it not 1 week after buying it.

DAM....I like when I am correct.

Sorry for that, but If I can help you with any install procedure (intake, timing belt, cam's, rockers/lifters) let me know.

Thanks, is there any tricks or tips to the reinstallation of anything? Or just reverse the teardown? How about getting the valve cover back on without knocking the rockers off?

Well........ looks like both cams are kinda wore also. So, going to order both of them too. Is there anything else needed when changing the cams? Cam seals, or anything?

YES... cam seals and plug/ seals that go in the back of the intake. 2 of each. They are not easy to remove. The fnt seal will need removed then there is a snap ring. Pull out the plugs in the back of the intake and slide the cams out.

The seal removal is the bad part.

FYI...the cam's also have a washer under the snap ring. newer replacement cams do not use the washer. so don't get confused when the washer dose not fit with the snap ring. After several calls to jeep I found out.
