Ok I cleaned our MAP sensor was carboned up like every other one in the world. Never had a CEL due to the MAP sensor but I figured if it is cheap enough why not just replace it.

So I started checking around.

Local parts houses - could not get :banghead:

dealer - OE Part Number: 5140331AA supersseeded by 68031593AA cost 144.00 :furious:

internet - found around 101.00 :furious:

started searching for BOSCH # 0 281 002 845 and came across GM part # 55206797

GM Dealer - GM part # 55206797 about 20.00 :o so I ordered it (worth 20.00 just to find out)

took 3 days to get to OR from NV got part 4/3/13 it is a BOSCH # 0 281 002 845

same part # on our Liberty. WTF

I'll put in tonight considering it has the same part # it should be no problem with it working.

Just put new sensor in and it is warming up. So far no CEL on.

Wife is test driving now. since it is her daily driver she will notice any difference better than i will. Though i don't think there will be much to notice yet.

I believe it's been touched on before. Yeah, this is a very common generic sensor used on many of the European diesel models made by Fiat, Alpha Romeo, Vauxhall/Opel, Saab, Citroen, Lancia, Renault. The price comes as no surprise since the sensor itself is a very low cost item.

They sold them at RockAuto for around the $20-$25 price point but looking at their web site they don't currently stock them.

Interestingly the Chrysler list price was around $50 about 6 years ago so they've really jacked their prices up. I can just imagine the conversation at head office:

"Hey Chuck, I was just reading LOST the other day and these guys are cleaning their MAP sensors with carb cleaner and all sorts of solvents. That's a delicate part so there's bound to be a lot of breakages. Let's triple the price and make these suckers pay :ROTFL:"

So far so good on the new sensor.

No CEL yet. Although I think at a cost of $20.00 i think I'll go buy a spare just to have on hand in case it ever does fail and then I can swap it out quick.

I'm nickle and dime all the little things to help out the MPG's until I can afford the ECO-TUNE. This weekend I'm doing U-Joints, measuring for a muffler, and perhaps checking for sticking brakes.

I should just go ahead and replace the T-stat as well.

On that tstat there is no particular need to proactively replace it assuming it is working properly. Diagnosis is generally easy - if the temp gauge after a good engine warm up reaches ca. 1/2 needle width or so left of dead vertical the tstat is ok - if the temp gauge never gets that high then the tstat is toast. I favor an OEM replacement for personal reasons at least while I wait for Kap's custom rebuild but some have had good luck with a cheap inline option.

FYI the OEM tstat failure mode seems to be open or opening too soon so the engine runs cold which hurts mpg but that's better than overheating.

Temp gauge is about 1.5 lines left of vertical on any normal day.

Although just cannot believe that Dodge/Jeep bones everybody on that MAP/BOOST sensor. Just had to help people here hopefully save some money. Though now I can see a whole bunch of Liberty's in the GM parking lot buying MAP sensors. :ROTFL:

Feel sorry for all the folks that got it from dealer already because they needed it.

A person told I should buy a bunch and sell them here for 50.00 but call it karma or what ever. I feel better about people knowing this way better.

I heard but can not confirm that they snort a line of Cocaine when they price parts.
That is why the Mopar MAP sensor is so high. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

After a full day of driving to and from work. CEL never came on. So looks like cheap GM part works.

Just got an email the other day concerning the MAP/Boost sensor swap using the GM part #. IT WORKS. it is the same manufacture and Part # that was in our Liberty. It looks the same - bolts in the same - and plugs in the same. No CEL from the swap. Hell i bought a spare before you all drove the price up on the part :-)r :-)r :ROTFL:

When I replaced mine back in November it was 29.99 at Oreilly. They had it in stock and its a BWD lifetime warranty. I think you should change parts houses if the ones you went to couldn't get it.

I called Oreilly's and they said they couldn't find it in their computer. Autozone had trouble looking it up, but finally found it under some weird name (which I can't remember - intake temp sensor or something like that) for 90 bucks. So I called the GM dealership and gave them the part number. They said 1 day to get it and its 19 bucks, so I ordered it.

The GM dealer called and said they had the part in. So I went and got it and installed the GM part number sensor. It looked exactly the same, was a Bosch just like the one that came out. However the part number on it was different than the one that was in my 05. I'm running on it now. A big improvement in performance and no check engine light. So far so good. I don't know what to make of the Bosch number being different. I'm thinking as long as its running OK with no light its safe to use this. What does any one else think?
