it's simple if you have a press... otherwise you have to take the arms to a shop

actually mine were replaced under the last recall - you might check if your's is listed (it's safety so I don't think there's a time limit)

the preferred replacement is Moog grease able - however you do have to grease them regularly

Al has the right ones http://jeepinbyal.com/jeep-liberty-kj/ball-joints-and-bushings/moog-lower-ball-joints.html

Stay away from the cheap Ebay ball joints. I put a set in my '01 Ram 2500 and had to replace them a year later. They looked pretty good and well made, grease fittings and all, out of the box but the "Made in China" quality was junk.

Wow really? I was about to order them from ebay tonight thanks. I was going to replace my upper control arm and lower ball joints and the ebay price were soo much cheaper than auto zone or the dealer. Any suggestioms for good qualith but cheaper price. Moog seems pricey

I ended up replacing them with a NAPA ball joint. I don't know how well they are lasting because I sold the truck soon after replacing them. Like anything else...you get what you pay for. I too was lured by the low Ebay price and since I was installing them myself, labor wasn't an issue. More or less an experiment on my part.

The MOOG's are worth it.You don't want to cheap out on parts like balljoints.Plus the MOOG's K3199's are the only ones that have a grease zerk you can actually grease with the CV axle in place, just remember to actually grease them every oil chnage.

Yeah? How much? I ask because a complete set of upper control arms and LBJs will set you back about $170 from RockAuto. This is pocket change compared to some of the stuff on this vehicle.

OK, I don't know what you're getting at. First you say get the MOOGs, then you suggest the MOOGs from RockAuto may not last a year  . If they're not good enough maybe you can tell us what is?

There are two K3199 ball joints. The ones that are already in your KJ and then the HD version with a grease zerk. The HD versions are about $65 each while the stock ones are about $30 each.Plus good UCA's are going to run you at least $130 each.So $170 for 2 UCA's and 2 LBJ's are the cheapest ones made.

The HD K3199's "the problem solver" balljoints..............

Rock auto sells the problem solver ball joints for 37 bucks. Search K3199...

Your 1st link is the regular balljoint, not the "the problem solver" balljoint.

While that is true of the image (website images or mostly just representative), the text states problem solver. The technical bulletin link goes to the moog problem solver page.

Also, if you search for the K3199 part, you will get two results. The regular one, and the "problem solver" one.

Yes I know but there also are 2 different prices. The actual "the problem solver" K3199's are twice the cost as the regular balljoints. You need to make sure you are paying/getting the correct ones.

The list from RockAuto:
DORMAN Part # 520354 CAD$40.45
RAYBESTOS Part # 5021039 CAD$49.60
MEVOTECH Part # MK3198 CAD$49.80
MOOG Part # RK3198 CAD$55.70
AUTO EXTRA / CHASSIS RITE Part # AXK3198 CAD$60.78

All in the $40-$70 range so all crap I take it? Just because you can get the same part from some local parts store for twice the price doesn't mean its better.

BTW, you've quoted K3199 and then post a link to the image for the K80767???

I can point you to a dozen parts stores that show you this picture for the K80767 and this is what RockAuto sell for ~$35.

The Federal Mogul catalogue itself specifies K80767 for 2005-2007 vehicles which covers our CRD:

..and here is a link to the catalog page:

http://www.fme-cat.com/PartDetailWindow ... WRE5jckRIk

While the 3199 may fit I think there's no disputing that the K80767 is indeed the greasable joint MOOG want us to use on our CRD.

From what I can make out the original 3199 may have come without the grease zerk and was later superseded by the "problem solver" version which has understandably caused a lot of confusion. I suspect the K80767 may have been in an attempt to fix this confusion but don't quote me on this.

K3199's "the problem solver" balljoints installed on my KJ when it was still IFS.................

The boxes those balljoints came out of clearly stated "K3199" and at work we have 2 of those exact same balljoints in stock with K3199 printed on the box.

I don't doubt you have K3199's in there but I'd just buy the K80767 which is greasable and is what MOOG themselves list for 2005-07 Liberty's (which covers all North American CRDs).

'02-'07 KJ's all use the same LBJ regardless if 2wd,4wd,2.4,3.7,or 2.8 engine.
