I have been thinking about selling my CRD. There are a few reasons why. Without getting into too many details, a death in the family last year has resulted in me getting the CRD pretty much for free...and my mother getting another [not as new as the CRD, but still decent] car for free. Since she is thinking about getting a new car, I may end up keeping her old one. I may end up selling the CRD and keeping the money for savings to buy my own house soon. I may end up buying a brand new car. I may end up buying a car that is an appliance car because I am a mechanical moron when it comes to working on cars. I may even keep the CRD. I'm not sure yet.

As far as problems, yes I have had a few. The recent work was a result of my negligence of ignoring a looming water pump failure for months. Other then that, I have had no major issues. I want to be open to whoever I sell this car to.

As a result of my timing belt jumping thanks to the ignoring an obvious looming water pump failure, I now have brand new rockers and a completed timing belt job. I am curious if something like this actually is a bonus for trying to sell the car to people who know about them. I figured TB job and brand new rockers takes away quite a bit of worry...especially with the premature rocker wear we are seeing in these engines and the costs to fix them...as well as the TB.

Current issues:
I need to replace the ABS sensor wiring (actual plan on having it done next week)
I need to replace the alternator (works fine, worn clutch is chirping)
Probably would benefit from a GDE tune (the rockers are brand new so I would recommend the buyer had it tuned ASAP, or I am if I decide to keep it myself).
CEL is on because of ORM to disable the annoying EGR. It has been disabled by me the whole time I have driven it as well as the previous owner.

Odometer reads 84,XXX

Fuel economy has always been about 23-25mpg for me. I drive in the suburban/city. I imagine all highway would be much better, especially with the GDE tune.

Anyways, I always give a long winded post, but what do you guys thinking about this? Should I expect people to be turned off by new rockers and a TB or be turned on by it (I would personally)? Are people who don't know about CRD's turned off by the constant CEL from the ORM?

Curious from the experience of you folks as I plan to fix the few issues and maybe list it for sale...

I'd consider the work you have done as a bonus, but for a buyer out of this forum, I'd keep quiet about any repairs you have done. Most people would think this is a major issue and would stay away. Just my opinion. Good luck seling it and buying your house!

I agree, if I wasn't reading all the info on this forum I would not know that its a positive that the rockers have been replaced.

Thanks for the info.

I think as soon as I fix the sensor wiring I will list it. I may even list it with the alternator making the chirping it does and if it doesn't sell I will relist as soon as the alternator is replaced. I just barely have time to work on this car when I'm not using it, but at least the alternator switch should be easy. :D
