You can go up to 245/70/16 with stock suspension.

Bet thing is to run a tire size calculator

(like this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)

and find out the best and closest match that can fit (as I posted previously, 245/70/14 is about the max in diameter and width as you can go before tires starts touching the fender or wheel assembly parts). Just keep in mind that same tire make and model has better load rating for wider tires than for narrower, so a 235/70/16(edited) is lower rating than 245/70/16 (edited) for same make and model of tire.

uuummmhh typo...that should be 245/70/16's are max stock - you were right the first time.

actually folks have run the 235/75/16 and 215/85/16's stock - however most of the tires in those sizes are LT grade E so they're a lot heavier. Although great for cutting through snow.

and oh yeah - there's actually a tire section of LOST if you scroll down a bit.

Spot on, my bad, typo, went back and fixed it. I think Sir Sam's website (noob guide) also has a bunch of info about tires for KJ, if memory serves me right. As long as you won't get wider than 245 and taller than 245/70/16 or 235/75/16 (which I think is taller than 245/70/16) I think it's fine. And yea, narrower tires are better for light snow/slush, but worse for thick mud/deep snow. It's a matter of preference, obviously, I would definitely prefer 245s, wider and better weight distribution per inch, especially since I barely go offroad with this Jeep...

I got 245/70R16 Hankook Dynapro ATm on her. I have inverted the spare and I needed a spacer nut for the spare not to rub and the glass to open.

Stock ride height on my CRD, I had the tire shop try mounting a 235/85/15 for curiosity's sake. Rubbed on the inside plastic fender liner and the pinch weld at extreme lock... But it did fit. BIG bastage.

I ran 215/85/16 BF Goodrich Commercial T/A highway tread (load range E) and got great life from them towing and on the highway... But they could be defeated by wet grass. Changed to the BF Goodrich Commercial T/A Traction M+S version, same 215/85/16 except load range D - GREAT tire. Those things in the snow (I had 2 studded) were dang impressive. Snow? What snow?

Just installed a set of 245 70 16 Goodyear Assurance Tripletred - and now the mileage is up, the ride is smoother, grips the road and the handling is superb in heavy rain.

racetracer that is the tire I am running. Love it! Not as good in the nasty mud but you can't have everything. Great on road!

On mine, inverted spare tire mount, The glass was hitting the tire and the bottom of the tire was pushing against the bumper.
