So I just got a set of tow hooks from another lost member and I'm having trouble putting them on. Here is a pic. These look a lot different than the KK tow hooks that I've seen

A KK is a Cherokee in a lot of places. They look a lot like the KJ tow hooks I put on mine with the exception of the "M" bolt. You have the proper stud plate for the KK providing the bolt locations are in the right place.

i sold him the tow hooks and according to the original owner of the car they were installed by the dealer when your purchased the car and they were removed to install a front two system to pull the kk behind their RV.

i never installed them, but did you try to install them???

i just tried to contact the previous owner and left a message to get more info on the hooks, if for any reason you attempt to install them and they dont work let me know and i will issue a full refund and will take care of the shipping back to me.

These look like the ones that come from the factory. They should've been already when it arrived to the dealer. Either way, the front bumper has to be removed and the uniframe caps taken off so that the stud plate can be inserted into the uniframe with the studs sticking out the holes.

Ted15 is correct about bumper removal. Here is Diggerfreek's how-to:

I believe those are the ones I have on my 2011KK Limited. And yes, you have to remove the bumper to install/unistall them.

The mounting brackets are different on those compared to a kk/kj hook.

That does look like the factory I bought for a 2012 Liberty. You do not need to removed the bumper cover to install it. You do need to cut some of the plastic with a utility knife or a Dremal-type tool with a cutting disk.

Also, some here have pulled the factory hooks with the M-bolt out. I suspect those events were caused by jerking the vehicle out of where it was, instead of using a steady pull. -- I've pulled a 12,000 pound log with one hook.

I was stuck with large mounds of clay front and rear. Once the clay was removed with a shovel it was an easy recovery, after my hook pulled off.
These don't have the m bolt so the bumper has to be removed to install the stud plate. Better option also. There a whole discussion on it.

I didn't proof my post. That hook DOES NOT look like the factory hook I bought. -- one note on M-bolt installation. When I installed it, I used a torque wrench to set the nuts. After the initial tightening, I was surprised at how far from the correct torque setting it was. I suspect there is some metal at the mounting point that is deformed when properly torqued. Which may be part of the cause for factory hooks pulling out.

I'll give it another go tomorrow but I could not get the holes to line up at all.

Check the eBay listing. Those are exactly what they look like and they were taken off a 2005 Cherokee. Unless he was referring to the liberty as a Cherokee cause some ppl do.

Everything else aside, the "M" bolt is a piece of threaded round stock, about 3/8" dia, bent for easy installation of the tow hooks when purchased as an accessory. They are not installed at the factory, they install a stud plate. The hooks are rated for 10,000 pounds if I remember correctly. The weakest link with the "M" bolt is the fact that there is only a few thousanths of an inch in contact with the uniframe and that allows it to bend under pressure to the point that it can pull out. The stud plate however is much stronger as it would be very difficult to pull a 1" wide piece of flat stock through the uniframe.
I highly recommend that anyone with an "M" bolt purchase a stud plate type hardware kit and replace the "M"'bolt.

Just called a local Jeep dealership. Have them this part number ( shown below on the side of both hooks) they have no record of the part number. Mopar site has a different number as well

Any suggestions???

This is the tow hook that came off my kk. The second pic you posted appear to be the right ones.
