Doc, just curious what is your egt at the end of a 100mph wot run, with your hot tune? What is your max boost at 4k rpms?

I'm not worried about the turbo, since I have been building my own hybrid turbos for yrs. and running my own heavy tunes in all my diesels. I am running very light haze, basically smoke free, at 1450 degF. is no big deal, unless you were thinking deg C (ie. 2600 degF).

1. Did not have gauges then, so I do not know.

2. Reread my previous post, carefully. You obviously did not get it. Ask Geordi. When the turbo goes, all the oil gets pumped out of the MOTOR within 45 seconds. If the oil pressure light comes on, it is too late. You have lost the motor. If you notice a drop in power (boost gauge really helps here), switch off instantly and kick into neutral. Check oil level. If it is down, tow home. Do not start until fixed.

(Like I said, sorry.)

Driving your car with a popped turbo for 10 sec will cloud out the sun with white oil smoke when turbo shaft breaks in two.

30 seconds you'll hydro lock your pistons. If you don't run out of oil first and spin your crank bearings.

45sec just means you don't know what's happening under the hood and shouldn't be driving a turbo diesel.

Popped many turbos racing, rally, & pikes peak and tons of Dyno testing. Been there done it!

To the op you can't go wrong with Suncoast TC. Sorry to crash your thread. I am out of here.

JSR,

If you have the extensive experience you claim to, I am at a loss to understand how you could misunderstand a good faith effort to try to help someone new to the forum to avoid expensive mistakes.

There is a wealth of very specific experience here with the KJ CRD which we try to share for the benefit of all. Turbos fail all the time on multiple vehicles and all they generally do is go slower.

For a production vehicle, it is outrageous that a turbo failure will lead to an engine failure if the motor is not stopped from rotating within 45 seconds, but this has been painfully proven numerous times with the KJ CRD.

Since we do not have many people exploring the absolute limits of the KJ CRD as you are, you could significantly add to our knowledge base by keeping us updated as to your findings running 1450 degree pre-turbo temps with the OEM style Garrett turbo, while towing.
