Four approaches that I know of:
1. by far the best option for a host of reasons = GDE tune
2. SEGR box but last I saw a price it was ca. $300 for a built kit although Greasy Bob (
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22498&start=420) might have one. This option predates the GDE tune and involves IIRC some pretty significant wiring into the harness.
3. hard plug the EGR pipe. Not too difficult but does kill any ability for the EGR to prevent turbo overspooling in certain circumstances.
4. best short term option is just unplug the MAF sensor and live with the CEL. Yes I know you are in an emissions inspection area but that doesn't matter; next time you need an inspection just plug the MAF back in and drive for a few days to clear the CEL. Don't know if CO puts a code reader on the engine and don't know if a code would be stored once the light goes out but if that's an issue I bet someone in the area has a GDE or other type code reader that can clear any ECU stored code.
