Sorry if this has been answered before, I'm sure it has, but I have seen many different answers from people who didn't seem to actually know.

My CRD doesn't appear to have come with the factory tow package. I have a hitch reciever, but it seems to be an aftermarket brand(Curt I think?) and there are no trailer wires. What is missing that would have come with the factory tow package? I have read a few times that the CRD comes by default with all the upgraded coolingthat would come with the factory tow on a gasser, the only thing missing is the hitch and wiring, is this true?

Does the '06 CRD come with the wiring harness for the trailer pre-install? Would something like this:http://www.carid.com/2005-jeep-liberty-trailer-hitches/tow-ready-t-one-connector-4027597.html?CAWELAID=1769580681&nid=PLA&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CLXj9LCajLkCFYyd4AodLXsANQ be plug and play or do i need the rest of the wiring as well?

Thanks

I can partially answer your question.

The KJ CRD and gasser transmission coolers are in different locations; the CRD is in the bottom of the AC condenser. The factory tow pkg on the CRD is simply the addition of a Mopar receiver hitch; a round trailer wiring female plug (forget how many wires it has and simply don't know if that includes a brake wire but I can say the factory pkg does not include a brake controller); and a male wiring adapter plug to go from the common flat trailer lighting plug to the round plug that's part of the factory tow pkg.

Adding wiring is apparently somewhat complicated depending on whether or not you have the EVIC; whether or not you want to add a brake controller; and of course whether or not you want a flat plug or round one at the rear of the vehicle. I'll let others that know lots more than me on the wiring to provide comments.

FYI if you are towing heavy addition of an aux tranny cooler is a good idea. There are multiple posts on that topic but PM or email me if you want direct links.

Thanks for the info. That does help.

I just spent a few minutes under mine and it looks as if the previous owner botched the tail light wiring when they were setting the jeep up to be towed behind a camper. They did not splice it in very cleanly.

Finally found an excellent source:http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-tow-stuff-hitches-harnesses-brakes-26895/

This pretty much explains it all. If you have EVIC, it is just a single harness that you install in the trunk/under the rear of the Liberty. If you dont have EVIC, you have to buy a second harness that needs to be routed from the battery, though the fire wall, behind the dash, and along the right side of the car all the way to the trunk. Ouch
