Well, just tried to order an OEM replacement for the infamous cruddy MAP sensor, as an insurance policy, and they sent me the wrong sensor. I got the sensor that goes next to the airbox instead, apparently. I guess I'll just hang on to it for future use...since I doubt they'll go good on it. After all, it seems it's not even called a MAP sensor at all on the diesel Liberty, but rather an Intake Air Pressure Sensor/Boost Pressure Sensor/Air Intake Temp Sensor, etc. Arghhh....I found the part number here on the forum a little too late :banghead: ....oh well.

Anyway, my question is this: Has anyone tried the Crown version of this part number 68031593AA? They're about half the price of OEM Mopar, and there are 3 available on Ebay right now for even less than 1/2 price. BTW, I don't want to try the $20 alternate Bosch that's been mentioned in the "cheap MAP sensor" post. I don't want to take any chances on this part, since it controls boost pressures and such.

If anyone has one of these, and it's been working great, I'd love to know. I'll probably order one up. Thanks in advance!

Why on earth would you want to try a Crown part off eBay when the BOSCH # 0 281 002 845 or GM PN 55206797 has been used successfully by several members and verified as acceptable by MrMopar64? Just saying.

No first hand experience with this part but the general feeling on Crown parts is that they're a bit hit and miss i.e. some parts are fine and others are pretty poor imitations.

What exactly do you think Crown are going to sell you? I suspect it's either the Bosch part or a cheap Chinese knock off of the Bosch part.

If you do your research you'll find that the Bosch part is what Mopar are selling as the replacement part. IIRC there are 2 Bosch part numbers out there.

The cheaper GM MAP sensor works fine in our vehicles and has already been tested and verified by several forum members. I have one in my garage waiting for when/if I need it.

You'd be silly to pay more than $20 when you can get the Genuine Bosch part with the GM Part # and it works great.

Do whatever you want though.

Per the recommendation of @CATCRD and @papaindigo, I ordered the GM Part from gmpartsdirect.com

Part: $15.84
Handling: $4.01
Subtotal: $19.85
Freight: $8.94
NC Tax: $0.00
Core Charge: $0.00
Misc: $0.00
Total: $28.79

I also checked out idparts.com and they have it for $24.95 plus shipping.

I can't imagine that you could get it cheaper or with a better recommendation.

You are correct sir. Had I checked idparts.com first it would have been $26.84 with shipping included. I went on the recommendation on one of the other threads regarding this part. Regardless I got a fair deal.

You can thank me for telling IDParts about the cheaper part number (they had one for $160 previously). I've found if you contact Curtis (cevans) and let him know about part requests, they are often added within a few days.

First of all, thanks to everyone for chiming in on this. I can understand the concern with the Crown part being a cheap knockoff, so I'm with you there. I figured that it might, however, at least have the exact specs of the OEM sensor, and not the 845 Bosch. I'm not completely sold on the idea of the Bosch 845 being a perfect replacement for the 437 sensor. It is near impossible to find specs comparing the two sensors (thanks, Bosch), and on at least one website (Summit Racing) the 437 is described as follows:

These integrated Bosch T-MAP sensors are extremely robust and are not sensitive to oils, fuels, or fluids.

The description for the 845 says nothing of the sort.

I feel like there has to be a reason that the true OEM sensor costs significantly more than the 845, and I'm not prepared to take a chance on my engine, unless Bosch or an engineer tells me different, especially given that I have a mint CRD, with only 39,000 miles on it. If it's just a matter of robustness, as someone on the forum has apparently stated, then maybe the 845 just doesn't last as long through the EGR abuse, and that would also be fine...because it's incredibly cheap! No matter what, I believe I will just pay the extra money and get the true OEM replacement, Bosch 0281002437 for $65.97 on Summit Racing's website. I'm going to do the EcoTune in the coming weeks, and that should make the new sensor last for the next decade, hopefully. Again, thanks for your opinions...no disrespect.

What you're missing in all this, if I remember correctly from the original thread on this topic, is that the 845 Bosch part WAS actually used as OEM in some of the later produced CRDs (some 2006s, I believe). It is a direct replacement part as far as we know, but if it gives you piece of mind, purchase the more expensive one.

Do what you want as it's your vehicle and $s but I will offer the original discussion is at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=74785&hilit=bosch

I put the question directly to MrMopar64, very reliable direct info source, on the difference between the 2 Bosch sensors given that no one can find any specs and his answer was "The 437 and 845 sensors are electrically the same, the 845 sensor should just have more robustness for use in EGR applications. I wouldn't be scared to use it, we switched to that sensor on some of the newer engines before switching sensors types due to cost (LDF6T to DS-S3, in Bosch lingo)."

Short version is the 845 or GM sensor is cheaper and more durable than the 437 or original DCJ OEM one. Similar to the fact that the later model metal glow plugs are more durable than the original OEM ceramics.

I knew there is a pressure difference between them (the expensive one can read more pressure than the cheaper) , which for our crds didn't matter anyways. But I totally believe what Mr. Mopar said.

I don't have any technical knowledge to offer but here are some side by side pics of the two sensors. The one to the left is my new one the GM / Bosch part 845. The one to the right is the one I pulled out of my CRD Bosch part 437. I'm not the original owner so I don't know if the one I pulled out is a Mopar part or a replacement.

The 845 says "EGR" on the label. My '06, built late in the '06 MY, has an 845. As far as I know it is original. It *could* have been replaced before I got it at 47K. I have about 50K of trouble free driving with it. I also have the ORM, so it keeps it a bit cleaner. I have pulled it and cleaned it a few times. FWIW, I would get the 845. I think it is a waste of money otherwise, but to each their own...

Thanks for the comparison pics. It's funny...to my eye, the 845 looks like a more expensive part. Maybe it's just that green o-ring that's messin' with my head. At any rate, it sounds like either sensor is probably okay. I'll pick up one for cheap, and swap it in there after my EcoTune. Hopefully, I'll get a good gas mileage bump from the combination...

Chuckle - they both have a green O ring and copper colored probe or at least they do until run for a while in which case even when cleaned the O ring gets blackish as does the probe. At least that's the case with my original 437 sensor.

I can tell you for a fact that the currently sold OEM Mopar MAP sensors are in every way shape and form identical (even physically) to the GM version.

For all of you interested in the technical details on these two sensors, found this on a parts locator site.
they are:
BOSCH 0 281 002 437 (Mopar: 68031593AA)
kPa 11-307
mV= 250-4750
0 + NTC -

BOSCH 0 281 002 845 (GM Part No. 55206797)
kPa 11-307
mV= 250-4750
0 + NTC -

Not sure why the big difference in price; the specs are exactly the same... I can find no difference between them..
the site has pictures of both the sensors and the plug configurations and they are identical.
The Crown part I bought on eBay back in August died yesterday, started giving a Bar. Press Correlation and low voltage code (P0069 & P0071) on the OBD scanner. Put my original cleaned sensor back in and OBD was happy...
Do not want anything else made or sold by Crown!
ordering the latter part from Jegs today for a backup, seems to be the best price I can find with free shipping...
Keep on Jeeping :JEEPIN:
