Looks like we are getting the possibly the largest biodiesel facility in the U.S. soon!

And another article...

Glad to hear it! Right now, I've been paying 2.99/gal for biodiesel in Issaquah. I'd like to see that price go down some more.

Out of curiousity, what are people paying for diesel/biodiesel around the country? The lowest I've found petrodiesel currently is 3.07/gal

Yeah, we've got a big one going in here in Indiana along with a huge ethanol plant as well. No more idle farm lands going to waste, now all the acerage out here will be planted and utilized again!

A little off topic, but I've only run dino #2 since new. I finally found a biodiesel pump near me. It's only 2% bio. Will I have a cleaning effect of the fuel system after 10,700 miles that will clog my filter up if I start using this D2???

Hey alljeep:

Where is the B2 pump? I work in Westfield. One of my friends is a farmer in Sheridan and says there's a pump over at the Co-op in Lebanon (I think). He has B2 in his farm tanks now.

When I was in Bluffton a couple of weeks ago visiting family, I filled up with B20 for the first time ever. Bio is hard to find around here, isn't it.

Have you noticed the news (channel 13 in particular) doing special reports every time an E85 pump opens up here in the last week or so? It's annoying that they are making such a big deal over them when the vast majority of people can't even use the stuff in their cars. There are so many people who could use BioD RIGHT NOW. They don't talk about that.

Energy PLUS 24 - Midland-Impact
321 W. Morgan
Martinsville, IN 46151 (close to Mooresville anyway)

and there is a co-op right here in Indy on Kentucky Ave, inside the loop on the SW side of town, but it's an unattended site and for now they only accept their "club" refuel/credit cards because their "normal credit card machine is broken and is not going to be repaired". Same company as above. I looked them up in the phone book and called them about it, but have since thrown the information away.

Here is how I found the one in Martinsville:

http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodiese ... .asp?st=IN

But it's not entirely accurate. The Crystal Flash locations listed in Indy don't sell B2 at all, they used to.

My local supplier (and the only one in the Metro Atlanta area), SA White ( http://www.sawhite.com/ ) had B100 for many weeks at $2.39. It recently went up to $2.55 and for comparison, the cheapest I've see locally for petro is about $2.80, but it's a little more most places.

They truck it in from a producer in Northern GA who uses waste chicken fat for an oil source (as chicken farming is a big industry in that area).

I supposed they save money on overhead not having much retail overhead. You pull up to a tower of pipes in a gravel lot beside a warehouse and between multi-thousand gallon tanks or other products, but the fill-up is full service, the staff is efficient and knowledgeable and they're nice as can be to small buyers, especially considering their primary business is local fleet fueling.

We have a plant in Portland, OR. The other day B 99 was cheaper than the dino by .02 .

The only Spokane source is B20 and the last I paid was $3.14. Need to drive out of the way to get there too and the lot is not well maintained. It is imported from the East. They had a batch from the P. Sound but the quality was bad and contaminated/plugged all of their filters. The last dino was $3.079 but lots of it on this side of the state for $3.179>$31.99.

Possible, but not likely. It kind of depends on quality of fuel you have been buying, but you are close to filter change out time anyway. So you might just run without changing filter at first (have a filter ready in Jeep just in case) and then change at regular time. If you had 50k plus miles on the Jeep I would suggest running it a couple hours and then change the filter, unless the filter was new with less the 1000 mile on it then I would watch it close and either have a filter in the Jeep ready to change out beside the road or just give it about 2 to 4 hrs of run time to clean fuel lines and tank. B2 will clean your fuel system just as fast as B20 or B100, and it will remove all the old fuel residue and leave you with clean as new fuel system.

One thing I never hear much about here is the useage of a biocide when using biodiesel. I do a 1/2 oz of Power Service biocide with every tank and if I were running petro diesel I would use it about every other tank or two. I have seen what can happen whenthe critters start growing in a fuel tank, it ain't pretty.

In Phoenix #2 is anywhere from $3.19 to $3.39 B99 is $2.99 after all of the applicable tax incentives.

Thanks for the response. I forgot to mention that I have used the white bottle power service ever since day one, until a few weeks ago when I switched over the the grey bottle for summer time. So maybe I'm already cleaned out/stayed clean throughout the fuel system.

Just got off the phone with the Co-Op out here for the unattended station near me on Kentucky, Ave. They are sending me an application for a fuel card and they report that the station goes through at least 7500 gallons a week of biodiesel (B2) so I don't have to be worried about stale fuel. So, maybe I'll inch my way into the biodiesel world now. :)

Sounds great Alljeep about your PS usage and the co-op's sales. I get my from MFA co-op here in MO and I have never had a fuel related problem. I plan on taking about 15 gallons of spare fuel with me on my road trip to MI 26th of this month.

No the PS in Silver container does not contain biocide, and you need to buy a seperate biocide. The new Diesel Kleen + Cetane boost in white & green bottle is replacing the current white winter PS and the grey PS cetane boost and has biocide included. Go to Power Service website and check out their products by name section and you will find the new PS products.

I live 20 minutes from Aberdeen where the new refinery will be :D , we will see if the prices actually come down after they are up and running. I am paying 2.99 for B-99 right now.

This is actually kind of bad news...

They will be using mostly amount of palm-oil, imported from Malaysia. Malaysia is about 60% Islamic. How is importing palm oil from an Islamic thirld world nation any better than importing crude petroleum from an Islamic third world nation?

Palm oil comes from tree plantations usually on slashed rain forests. Palm plantations don't consume the same level of CO2 that the rainforest did - which is an additional hit in the CO2 absorbtion capacity of the earth.

And finally, palm oil based biodiesel begins to gel in the 50s. Thats right, 50 degrees!

All in all, if I can help it, I will not be buying biodiesel made from palm oil.

Here is the quote from the article:
Quote:
The company isn't immediately planning to buy Washington-grown canola oil because of the price, Plaza said.
"We have to be competitive with diesel," he said.

But he added that the company will consider buying from local farmers, who might be encouraged to grow the seeds when they see a firmly established market for them.

"They just have to be competitive with foreign [vegetable] oil," Plaza said.

The refinery could help create a more stable state biodiesel industry, said Matt Steuerwalt, a senior energy policy adviser to Gov. Christine Gregoire. Now there is little infrastructure to make the fuel.

But the project also could hurt smaller biodiesel plants proposed in Eastern Washington because it would hold down prices and meet demand for biodiesel, said Chad Kruger of Washington State University's Climate Friendly Farming project.

But Bruce Nave, an Arizona businessman looking to build a biodiesel plant in Whitman County, predicted the Grays Harbor project's use of foreign palm oil could make it less attractive to consumers.

"We're trying domestically to get off imported fuels, whether or not it's a renewable fuel or petroleum," he said.

The plan to use Malaysian palm oil also raises questions for some about the environmental benefits, because rain forests in Malaysia are being cleared for palm-tree plantations, said Brant Olson, of the environmental group Rainforest Action Network.
