Euro Spec R8037142AA Torque Converter

Talked to GDE this afternoon. They have tested the R8037142AA part number TC and have found it that it will stand up to their full torque tune without shudder. Has anyone else installed this part number TC on their CRD? If so, what are your findings.

I am the proud owner of a "new to me" 43k miles 2006 Liberty CRD. I want to upgrade the TC and install GDE's torque and trans tune. Seems that the new R8037142AA part number TC may be the way to go. Just wanted to see how many have gone that route and what your results and findings are.

I'm running Suncoast TC - they figured out the euro after I'd switched.

and I realize you're at 43K and the manual says 100K - but from a rubber belt lifetime - you're also at 7 years on that timing belt.
you should think about changing it sooner rather than later - although you could do the quick - belt only version - no need to do water pumps or rocker arms.

The euro TC is more than enough to handle the GDE HOT tune. My stock TC was shuddering something fierce before I got it swapped out. Mine has a different part number, but I believe it is similar.

I had my transmission replaced by the dealer 3 months ago and they installed that same part number in mine.....I now am beginning to feel shudder at full lock up .

Not sure how to proceed now.

Just put the euro in and ran 11400 to/from alaska pulling a 20' trailer with some 12% grades. No shudder. So far, another 12,800 easy miles. Still no shudder. I did put it to the test(lock-up full bore going up hill until downshift)....still no prob's. GDE eco tune. 18.4 mpg with trailer, 26 without, cooper 10 plys at 60 psi, i do use a small amount of stanadyne conditioner in each tankfill. about 1 tbsp. 177k and pulling fine. Paid 289 at dealership, installed it myself. A little over 8 hours. Put a new front cv driveshaft and all ujoints at same time.

5 years of heavy towing with euro. Check with GDE as to what is now the correct part number to order. That is a great price if it is the right one. Suncoast is at least 3X that.

Having the same problem but my transmission place thinks it a mount or miss alignment of some sort.
Let us know what they say the problem is? I switched the tc 3 times now since January

This does not sound good, any updates? Do you have any GDE tunes? What do you mean by "full lock up", isn't the lockup just On or Off?

Yes .... But I poured this stuff in and I don't feel shudder anymore.

I notice that the Euro TC is available from 2 places for the $220 + 100 core. Both state that they are remanufactured units. Presumably that is why the prices on these are so low?

RL037142aa is $366+$100 core

R8037142aa is $229.20+$100 core

Confused, what the heck is the difference.

Yup I have to admit this is confusing. I'm pretty sure my TC is going at this point as I'm feeling some pretty bad driveline vibes.

I spoke with my local dealer and he told me the R8037142AA TC were new units and cost around $480 I believe but none available to him right now. Also it is superseded by the RL037142AA which are new also for a cost of $509.00 with a 100 core charge and that is why there is a RL part number. Available next day if I like.

So after all of that why such a dramatic price difference for the R8037142AA TC from online dealers and Idparts? I try and buy from supporting vendors of the board and have been happy with past service from Idparts but there is a large price difference.

Oh and I take it that TC p/n R8037142AA is good to go with the hot tune. Any recommendations on where to buy that we can be sure is the updated TC with the better springs?

I have never seen or read where anyone experienced a problem after installing a Suncoast Torque Converter in a CRD, has anyone else? :?:

I am still leaning towards a Suncoast for a replacement TC even if it cost a little bit more...
Some on this list seem to have experienced problems with the the Euro Spec TC... :cry:

I have installed a slighty different part number, RL037142AA. This torque converter and it has worked very well with the Full Torque Eco Tune I have. I have been running it about 11 months now.
