:JEEPIN:Just had the timing belt & water pump done. After extensive research and price checking, got the best deal by going thru 3 sites to order parts. Could have gotten a Crown water pump cheaper, but decided to spend a few extra bucks for the Mopar and save myself the labor costs of having to replace the Crown when it failed.
#1 factorymopar parts.com:
Mopar Part 5142573AA 5142573AA 2 26.57
IDLER PULLEY
Mopar Part 5066921AA 5066921AA 1 16.27
TIMING COVER GASKET
Mopar Part 5142985AA 5142985AA 1 218.50
WATER PUMP
Mopar Part 5159019AA 5159019AA 1 8.63
WATER PUMP O RING
Mopar Part 04864575 WATER 4864575 1 2.93
PUMP GASKET
Subtotal 299.47
Shipping 15.41
Tax 0.00
Total 314.88

#2 Amazon.com:

Gates T336 Timing Belt

$66.78
*Free shipping and I got $30 off for opening an Amazon Visa so the belt actually only cost me $36.78

#3 streetsideauto.com:
Crown Automotive 5142798AA - BELT TENSIONER 5142798AA 1 $46.14
Subtotal: $46.14
Discount: -$5.00
Shipping Cost $9.95
Grand Total: $51.09

So grand total on parts shipped to door was $402.75. Labor was 7 hours @ $60 for another $420. Plus HOAT engine coolant that I've yet to see anyone mention which is about $30 a gallon at dealer but can be boughtt at Napa for $16 a gallon (Zerex G-05).

Hi all,

I have been lurking around this site since I got my 2006 diesel Liberty about a year ago. I picked it up with about 75000 mi on it. It just hit 100,000 yesterday. So it is time to do the timing belt service. Can anyone suggest a good mechanic in the New York city area?

Thanks in advance.

I will be getting mine done this week at a local dealership by the diesel mechanic.
I am here in North Jersey, right across the river from you.
PM me next week and I will let you know how it went.

getting ready to do this on my 05 CRD. Here's what I'm thinking

http://idparts.com/catalog/product_info ... brp7f95ld4

or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271202039262?ss ... _96wt_1327

I'm leaning with ID parts kit mainly because of the price and previous recommendations on this site. Am I on the right track?

05 Liberty CRD. A lot of the part numbers are the same for 05, 06 & 07, as they are the only years the CRD was made.

Just to wrap this thread up, I've finally completed the best Liberty CRD timing belt kit and secured enough supply to keep this price for a long time.

$399 Complete Kit with OE and OE+ Components

Includes:
* Gates Timing Belt
* OE Litens Timing Belt Tensioner
* OE Timing Belt Rollers (Qty 2)
* European Market GRAF Water Pump w/ METAL impeller (OE VM Water pumps available too)
* Water Pump Gaskets & Seals
* Gates Serpentine Belt
* Timing Belt Cover Gasket
* Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt

Thanks everyone. If I hadn't had the support of this forum I wouldn't have been able to make the deals that we did, and we'd still be paying $600+ to get quality (not CROWN!) components.

Sorry if this has already been dealt with, but you say the Graf pump has a metal impeller - whats the impeller in the VM pump made of?

Its a brown plastic - the marketing department calls is "composite". They claim there are some material benefits to composite over metals, but the reality is that metal pumps still have much better reliability - the main concern is the composite impeller coming loose from the sprocket shaft, and it stops pumping coolant, resulting in an overheating situation.

Historically brass has also been the preferred material because it does not corrode/rust like steel does. Good quality brass pumps, like this one, have a smooth machine finish which more efficiently pumps compared to the more rough cast finishes. Brass is the most expensive to produce.

I'll be placing an order for the IDparts.com kit today. 2006 Limited has 117k on it and I'm getting a bit nervous. Dealer wants $1900 and they weren't even sure how to do it. Between LostJEEPs, youtube, and the manual, I'm going to take a crack at it. Check for a "HELP!" thread in a couple weeks... :-)r

Just did my TB, WP and thermostat with parts from IDparts. They seemed like good quality parts and they came free shipping in 2 days. Very happy with them. However not so happy with GDE I rented the tools (no problem there) from them and printed out their procedure to replace the TB. In step 7 it has you put the cam locking pins in at this point everything is by the book but in step 9 the procedure has you loosen the cam bolts. DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL PUSH OUT THE CAM LOCKING PINS OR CRACK YOUR HEAD (80 FTLBS). I was lucky it only pushed out the pins along with the threads. Step 9 fails to say "use the camshaft gear locking tool to lock the camshaft" like it says in step 10. If you look in the factory manual they use a spanner to hold on to the cam pulleys which I feel is the best way because the locking tool really is for taking the slack out of the belt between the pulleys not to lock the camshaft for loosening the bolts. However it does work. I have informed Keith at GDE of this. I understand GDE is trying to help people (I DO APPRICIATE IT) do this job and probably don't make much out of the deal but the instructions should be proven. These are not. I'm really surprised someone other than me has not had this experience. My experience was perfect except for the pins pushing out. :(

idparts is a one stop shop..don't need to price shop...quality and convenience, over price.

I'm ordering mine soon too, I found a set of tools amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTRVX16/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A27IF2C0XSS8DE

Thoughts? They only have to work once for that price..

A guy could spend a lot of time trying to save a few dollars. Not worth it. I do not believe you would ever get the service you will from ID Parts

I would have bought them instead of buying the tensioner tool separately and grinding down my own cam pins for that price. I don't give much credence to the 1 review. The locking pins shouldn't be subject to any load, so bending them shouldn't figure into the equation.
