Mine lasted about the same just under 100k. The EGR is so bad for this engine. I don't think its as much of a filter issue as is EGR and just changing oil a little earlier. I do 5k oil changes now. Oil stays much cleaner.

I'm thinking that I just replaced my TB at the same time the rockers were to go out because I checked the timing both times I put it back together. The group of 3 are just plain worn out. All you need is one to start ticking and I think it puts enough stress on the others that you get a failure of at least one and then they all go.

Be sure you use the correct procedure to retime things. Or you will be doing it again. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=78018

Good luck

Wow, I don't know how I missed this thread. I'm happy to help if you have any questions, but you have gotten some good advice in this thread. Good luck with it, you definitely need new rockers. I wouldn't worry about pulling the head, the oil passages from the top of the head lead down to the pan and are fairly small. I don't believe anything damaging will have any way to make it into the cylinders, the cylinders and pistons are only served by pressurized oil jets, not by gravity returns.

Certainly plan on a shorter oil change interval, at least for the next couple changes, and use a quality filter like the Purolator Pure One or Mobil 1 M1-301 size. (I don't know the Purolator pure one size number, but with the m1-301, you can do a cross-reference if you didn't want to use the Mobil 1. Don't let the parts droid try to tell you that the M1-301 won't fit, it fits perfectly and is just slightly oversize. The oil change is then a full 7 quarts instead of 6.4.

Thanks, I have used the M1-301 with no problems but can't always find it so use the WIX filter. I was thinking the same thing about pieces of rocker that if there were any I missed with the magnet they would just end up in the pan. I will change the oil after 1000 miles that was a good suggestion. Now I'm worried about my other CRD I guess it's next for the rockers just for safety sake.

I'll probably have some more questions.

Thanks, geordi

No worries, glad to help. I'd offer to do your timing belt on the other CRD, but it sounds like you already have a decent handle on opening these up and playing with them.
