So on my last outing I tore my driver side Rack and pinion boot. How important is it that I get this fixed quickly. I have my rack warrantied, but I haven't cleaned my jeep yet and I'm going to the beach Saturday. I want to wait until I get back to wash it and take it in. Is it a big deal?

I work on electronic power systems for a living and tearing your boot is a huge deal. I'm not sure what the jeeps have but I can only imagine if it has a boot I would take it to get fixed before water gets in. If you took a picture that would help

Is the rack and pinion under the 100k mile warranty? If not which one because I think I'm going to have to replace it my boot has net ripped like yours but there is noise coming from it that doesn't sound good :banghead:

Ripping a R&P boot when offroad is not a defect and not something warranty covers.

I hat to replace the whole rack and pinion system out of warranty because of my lift. When they installed the new one they gave me a 1 year warranty on the part. I don't know for sure it ripped "off road". Could have well ripped before, and I just noticed it after inspecting for damage.
I'm actually just going to replace it tomorrow with an after market boot from autozone or o'reillys or something like that.

On mine the boot isn't ripped but is making noises when I hit bumps and now when I hit the brakes fairly good, but I was just wondering if the actual R&P is under warranty

If the Jeep Steering gear (rack and pinion) use a clamp make sure to use the same kind. Please don't zip tie it or some other sort of jerry rig. Also if the boot has grease where it makes contact with the rack housing make sure to put new grease on it, and make sure you use the right kind of grease
