I totally agree. It sounds VERY dry!
I've been looking hard for leaks and see nothing. I'm under my Jeep all the time and I've never seen any sign of leaks anywhere. I'll keep this thread updated. I'll be at the shop in the morning. Wish me luck!

Just got back from the shop.
They test drove it and he said he thought he heard something.
The mechanic showed me the passenger side brakes how the brake pad seemed to be sliding around easily. He put "spacer clips" on my brake pads. I didn't get charged anything.
Didn't hear anything on the drive home, but of course I'll still be listening for anything.

That's nice of them...brakes sliding around in the calipers (slowly) wouldn't make that noise while you turn the axle by hand. Did you show them what you took the video of? Take a look at the boot to see if it has a clamp that can either be re-used or replaced. You can confirm REALLY easily if the joint is dry by peeling back the boot. The only tricky part is being able to re-use the boot after you check. Tear it and you're going to be slapping a new boot on the CV axle (minor disassembly required).

Yes, I showed them the boot and what I thought was not a normal noise.
I'm not that confident this was the fix, but time will certainly tell. It didn't look normal to see how easily the pad was sliding around.

Heard the noise again tonight. :banghead:
Looks like I'll be trying to take her to a different shop this time.
This time I'll make sure I'm in the Jeep so I can duplicate the noise for them. Iyiyiiiii.

I stood next to them as I spun the wheel and it didn't mean anything to them.
Currently I'm looking at other spots besides the brake area. I noticed it looks like my K&N intake may be rubbing a bit and maybe that's what I'm hearing. All I know at this point is that it's on the passenger side, and it doesn't happen every time.
Going for a test drive in a few minutes.
I also plan to see if my dad can take a look at it this week. He lives an hour and a half a way, but has been a mechanic his whole life.

Got got off the phone with my pops. Without seeing it, he's suspecting a warped rotor. We both agree to try a different shop in the morning.

Not reading the whole thread, and just listening to the video. Six things come to mind.
Loose wheel bolts, a bolt on hub cap loose, CV clunking, caliper bolts loose, missing brake shims/ guides, or the support plate bolts loose/missing (support plate is the piece of tin behind the brakes [dirt/mud protector]).
Edit:
It sounds a little tinny to be the CV.

Look who joined the party! ScarO!
All the lug nuts are fine. It's done this for a few months now even after a tire rotation.
Support plate has been checked already.
I had a very hard time duplicating the sound again last night and today, maybe the rain had something to do with it? I've got an appointment at a better shop tomorrow.

Be interesting to see what they find. This would drive me crazy if it was on my rig.

You got that right. I'm bringing the video to show them, too.
I'll check in with this thread in the morning. Off to work.

did midas or whoever peep in the rear emergency brake inspection port with a scope or anything to see how things were in there?

that cv racket with the tire at full droop wouldnt concern me too much, stick a jack under the LCA and bring the assembly up closer to normal ride level and check it again, should put you at a bit more ease

No, they didn't look in there. What leads you to ask that question?
Just dropped it off at the place that did my lift a while ago. Pretty smart guys.
I sent him an email of the video, too.

Just got the Jeep back.
They were able to duplicate the noise.
The bill says they better secured brake pad shims to pad, lube pads and contact points, and clean rust from rotors.
We'll see if that worked.

when I had similar popping at low speed under gentle braking the emergency brake shoes had separated from the backing and were basically flailing around behind the rotor, theres basically small drum brakes for the ebrakes built into the back of the discs

that's how the kj ebrakes were I've never heard any different with the kks

Well it's fixed now. The KK e-brake may or may not be the same. Thanks everyone for brainstorming with me. Hopefully this can help out someone in the future.

Me, too. I prayed that it would be something cheap. The first shop should have tried some lubricant.
About to send you a PM ScarO.
