Yes, we did. There are other ways to go off of Eagle Rock though, afer about 2-3 miles of some good trail riding.

Thought so. I will probably pass on this one then. It was a great / fun trail for those who haven't done it before and are considering it.

Every party has a pooper!! Just kidding, you'd have a good drive ahead of you just to run the same trail as before.

We can always do other trails off of old stage as well... There are quite a few offshoots with good obstacles up there.

The most important part of this is the Grill party/meeting after the trail. Whoever is there will be the "Charter Members" to ratify the By-laws. No one from NM or UT have voiced any concerns, so I assume they are good with them. This will at least get the CO part up and official. We will also be nominating officers and possibly voting as well. These will be temporary slots to get us going until we can get a huge group to do the big vote.

BTW The Temporary Officers will get access to the Rockies officer/admin thread, and will automatically be nominated for the full scale election for Colorado officers.

As for the LOST Rockies President (All 3 States) I am still unsure of how to do this vote until we can get a good showing on a 3 state trail run like Ourray if we can do a date, unless we do an online vote.

I went down all of Dakan Rd yesterday, took Jackson Creek and drove through the Rampart for a while. Dakan involved a few of those "get out of the Jeep and scratch your head about how to possibly get past this obstacle" type of moments at times. It was a good time but it does take a while. I saw quite a few other vehicles until it got to the really cool parts and then nobody was around.

Rampart Range has some good views but it has a lot of traffic when it is nice out on the weekend because of all the 4wheelers and dirt bikes. The road itself is just a dirt road but there are some detours that one may choose to enjoy.

Does Eagle require skids? Can we get some directions from Denver (off I-25)?

I would highly recommend the skids, but the guys with actual KJ's will be better off saying yay or nay definately. Try to atleast find some stock skids to get you by. If you like your rockers, might be a real good idea to protect those too. Some guys have parked at the entrance and rode with someone else to atleast get familiar with the trail before deciding if their KJ is capable or not of handling Eagle Rock. Last time a group of us went up, there was no trail damage and everyone went through the obstacles without much difficulty with some good spotting. They even showed up several XJ's and TJ's.

If we are doing Eagle Rock, then we usually meet at my place and caravan there. You can put my address in www.mapquest.com to get directions.

I know a few people have raised the idea of doing something different this time around. Has anyone thought about or scouted out Saran Wrap or any of the other spurs off of Gold Camp Rd? I know that Ted and I scouted out a few of the spurs but I know there are a couple more up there. Another thing to keep in mind is that we haven't run Mt Baldy this year so that might be another option.

Last I heard Mt Baldy still had some serious snow drifts, and a huge boulder in the middle of the trail. I'll check on the status of that. I'll also ask some people I know that run Saran Wrap pretty often how that is compared to Eagle Rock. I have heard they are about the same, but there are some pretty tight spots that like to take out rear quarter windows, taillights, etc. There is also another trail at the end of Eagle Rock, but don't know much about it.

The trail at the end of Eagle Rock is Mt Baldy. The snow drifts (I imagine) are near the top of the trail and we generally take a left about half way up. I think the road is FS 327C and heads over to Seven Lakes Road. Just an option.

Anymore thoughts on this guys? There is some little trail on the way to Eagle Rock that looks simple yet fun, a good little warm up trail, maybe something for the significant others that come along that you don't want to wreck your junk. (Don't tell my wife I said that) :D I've been checking out www.traildamage.com, and there is a lot of awesome info, trip reports and pictures to look through.

Here is the lastest trip report and pictures from a group that ran Saran Wrap, then right into Eagle Rock, since they are right next to eachother.
http://www.traildamage.com/trails/report.php?id=314
http://www.traildamage.com/trails/report.php?id=315

For those guys that are new, or haven't been wheeling on a particular trail, or don't have the armor, big lift/tires, lockers, etc., don't be afraid to attend. Everyone's rigs will be evaluated by those familiar with whatever trails have been chosen, and if the jeep isn't up to the task, riding shotgun isn't that bad. With a smaller group like ours instead of joining up with a big group with a bunch of mall crawlers and kids with stock XJ's that have no business on some of these trails, we should have no problems getting through with enough time to decide to run any trails again or something new. Several of us have capable enough rigs to help get anyone out of trouble. Don't be intimidated by the pictures of these trails just because you have a liberty. Don't take that wrong, because I am in no ways putting down the liberty. I have noticed more liberty owners give their own rigs less credit than even those that don't own liberties. Keep in mind, this isn't just about the trail ride either, we're trying to get this club going, and eating stuff of course.:D

If anyone wants to consider a different trail, then let's hear it, and we still need to figure out meeting time/place, amount trail time, where/what to eat, etc. I'm sorry if I seem a bit pushy, I'm just dying to hit the trails and hang out, and my junk isn't even near ready for the trails. Also, I'm kind of excited to get this club going, incase it doesn't show, and I don't even own a Liberty.:D I just want to be involved in something different than just the usual cherokee and wrangler club. Something that will earn some respect. So, if you are just as excited to get this thing going, speak up and let's do it.

OK, I'll stop promoting and recruiting for now.:D Hey, let's get some Colorado Chapter LOST business cards made up.:D

Going off what Marty has posted...

If you have a stock KJ, you are certainly welcome to attempt Eagle Rock, and there is a pretty decent chance you'll be able to clear all the obstacles, however, you will be hitting your underside, so skids are all but a must have. Last time LOST did a run, I parked and rode with TokyoJoe, because I didn't have my new tranny skid yet, and I was lifted at the time. I have seen a stock cherokee make it through this trail. Trailing/crawling is 10% vehicle, 90% driver ability. Good spotters help tremendously and there will be no shortage of people to help with that.

There are other trails at the end of Eagle Rock, one of which I am fairly certain is Mt Baldy ( I say that because there is more than one. ) The last time I was up there, we ran towards Mt Baldy, and eventually wrapped back out to Old Stage Road. Same as Marty mentioned, I believe it to have been closed. Nonetheless, the trail we rode along was sweet, not super challenging, but extremely fun.

At this point, it looks like I will be camping out at the bottom of Eagle Rock the night before the trail run. If that is the case, I'll be meeting up with the rest of you at the trailhead. I think we may be camping out that night too, so potentially, I might be missing the meeting to follow afterwards.

Also, as mentioned previously, don't be afraid to show up and meet people. If nothing else, it will be a good social gathering, and you'll likely get home with a huge itch to go wheeling, and soon after, you'll be emptying your pockets to buy Jeep stuff. Don't doubt your liberty, some of the best fun on these trails is watching the Wrangler guys' jaws drop when you say yes after they just asked if you wheeled your liberty up Eagle Rock.

I am back....parents, sister, and brother-in-law left this morning to go back to Ohio.

Perhaps we should offer two trails, one easy and one moderate. Save the hard stuff for another day. Let's focus on bringing in as many people as we can to this event. A hard trail only would alienate many people and an easy-only would not bring out the hard-cores.

I'm still planning on making this run. Does anyone have an air compressor? I want to air down my tires but don't have squat to air them back up. If anyone could lend me a hand I'd really appreciate it. I was wondering earlier what you guys have done on past runs with airing down...

You should be able to air down and still make it back out to a gas station with no problems. Since Old Stage road will be full of washboards, you'll probably handle better over them aired down. And on the way out, there are a few gas stations right by the I-25 entrance that you can air up at... That's how I did it last time....

I do have an air compressor but it's just a little plug in one so it will take some time to air back up. I plan on doing the same thing so if we're just relying on mine to air up, we might be there for a while.

We need to get a fresh post stating:

1. Date
2. Time
3. Meet Location (directions)
4. Trails to be explored and difficulty levels
5. Meet location after trails
6. Meet time after trails
7. Eating plans and club discussion plans

Sounds like we have the 28th of May decided and doing trails in the Rampart Range/Eagle Rock area.

I am willing to lead an easy or moderate trail since I have conquered Eagle Rock (especially that one hill with the sharp curve - hahaha - j/k)

If you have a stock rig or just don't feel like doing a hard trail like Eagle, I'd lead another group from our meet point and do the easy-moderate trail.

Ok there is a very slim chance I can make it...have the day off but am on call...I might be able to get someone to cover the on call part for that day...we'll see.

My question on Eagle Rock is...can it be run with an open differential? I got all the other details taken care of...but no locker...yet...

I, too, have open diffs. This trail is considered difficult, but we won't have a problem with other rigs there to give us a pull when we need it. Ted, are you bringing your cradle and winch?

Attendance:

Rock Lizard
fish_eye
USAFCOP
TokyoJoe
PhilT
KW AV8R
hunting12ga (riding shotgun with me, last I checked)
myself

Anyone I missed? We're looking at 1 XJ and 6 KJs so far?
