The racing filter has a higher flow rate because it has a much higher micron rating which equals poorer filtration. Look at the specs on the Wix website...51515R=61 micron rating, the 51515=31 micron.

If you drive the jeep in high rpm, the racing is better, since the bypass valve would open a bit later than on the conventional filter. For normal driving, the standard filter (non racing) is better, as amslube stated.

Good day gentlemen
I've spent time looking at various engine oil filters for the CRD.
What I'm using at present is a Donaldson, part P169071 filter.
This uses a synthetic media and is similar to an extended life filter.
The filter is larger than stock, but very easily clears the transmission skid plate (if mounted).
thanks for the opportunity to reply.

I also can not speak to that specific filter, but I just put on the k&n filter specd for our jeep. The two main reasons being is I like the 1in nut on the bottom for getting the filter off, hate wrestling with an old greasy filter, and also they have a very thick side wall. These filters are from what I've seen probably one of the most exposed I've ever seen on a 4x4. I don't have skids on mine yet but the PO had already told me stories about knocking holes in filters (Fram user). Personally I'd worry less about the Gpm and get the better filtration. Diesels run dirty, they have gross oil. Keep it clean and it'll be happy
