Can someone tell me exactly what Limp Mode is. My 06 will only reach 3000 rpm and will not go above that whether it is in park or drive.

you are in limp mode. It limits rpm to about 3000rpm and there is reduced allowed power (less fuel). Certain fault codes will put the vehicle in limp home mode.

Is the stealer the only one that can get this out of limp mode. If not can someone please tell me which scanner to purchase to read codes and reset the computer.

Autozone sells a decent one that allows you to read and reset DT codes.
If the DTC keeps returning, you have other problems that will need attention....
Let us know what codes you get, and some on this forum will try and help advise you... :SOMBRERO:

Yeah post the codes up here then the experts can give some advice.

The 2006 CRD has a potential problem whereby the fuel filter head mounting bracket can damage the harness which goes behind it so it is worth removing this bracket and have a good look at the harness in that area to see if any wires are pinched or frayed. :(

Can someone give me the exact model code reader that works. I have already purchased one and it doesn't work.

I've got an Equus 3110. It is a bit temperamental and often doesn't connect properly on the first or subsequent attempts but always connects after a few tries. Have you tried a few times, It may eventually connect.

I also have the Alientech tool from GDE - works reliably
ELM327 based bluetooth dongle and Torque app for Android - this is the cheapest and most flexible option - works reliably
I've also used a small Autel device borrowed from a friend. Not 100% sure but I think it was the AL301. It also worked fine.

Possible point of clarity or maybe not. As I understand it only DCJ scanners or the equivalent can read ALL the codes. For example GDE's reader can read ECU codes which include the generic P0700 transmission code (all that says is there is a stored TCM code) but cannot read/access the TCM or body control module. That said it would be helpful to at least know what ECU codes are stored.
