Well, I have my rig in the Tranny shop awaiting the final go ahead on the warranty I bought. Hopefully I'll be getting a rebuilt tranny soon. Now it is up to me on getting what i want upgraded while it is out. Suncoast TC and Transgo kit will definitely be going in per the comments from most on this site, Are there any other I might want to invest in that I've either overlooked in all the threads here. A rebuilt tranny will come with a new front pump, so I shouldn't have to worry about that.

Some suggested a transgo kit, Ron from suncoast highly recommends it. Just don't install the resistor, I hear it's not worth. I still have to install mine soon...

Tuf-Mud - you might want to get in touch with Ron directly. Two thoughts come to mind:
1. I know he installs the transgo kit, he did mine, but I'm not sure the kit or at least the pump part of the kit is needed with the new pump. On the other hand the kit parts for the valve body probably would be good to install on a "new" tranny.
2. your "new" tranny likely will come with a new pump but I wouldn't count on it being the new style pump which I believe is PN 68009879AB unless you eyeball it to confirm. Exactly how I don't know but I seem to recall a post that showed the visible difference between the old and new pumps

The original style front-pump and cover required three (count'em: 3) seals:
- outer o'ring
- cover seal to pump hub - upgraded pump gots no needs-to-be-sealed hub
- pump hub seal to TC drive collar

The revised version has only two: the outer o'ring and the TC drive-collar seal

Pics show new-style cover on upgraded pump with no hub

Awesome, thanks for the info guys. I will let the mechanic know about making sure I get the upgraded pump along with the TC and Transgo kit.

I am running an Edge converter with the full torque tune and it kicks serious ace! Cheaper than Suncoast, no core, and built by a company rooted in diesel performance

Again, this is in no way, shape, or scope intended to detract from the aftermarket race-hardened 5.7L Hemi torque convertors - they are simply
not needed to upgrade a KJ driven in normal street or off-road manner - however, they do give excellent bragging rights for those that can
afford them, and those who are also afflicted with the 'mine's bigger'n yours' syndrome

NOTE: I installed the SUNCOAST TC in my KJ B4 anyone knew the oem stock 5.7L hemi TC was the correct and available upgrade - subsequently doing considerable research to determine this, I immediately posted the new information on this forum back in ought 7 - so........

This is for members, and especially new members, who need to know that they do not need to spend a small fortune just to improve seat-of-the-pants-noticeable driveability of the KJ CRD

What is needed is the aggressive forward-curved turbine vane-angles designed into the oem Hemi version which produce much greater hydraulic coupling than the
slightly rear-curved vanes in the KJ - the aftermarket vendors do not alter the Hemi turbine-vane angles - they merely furnace-braze the ends
which are oem inserted into slots with bent-over tips to secure them in-place - brazing is required for hi-performance useage

These pics illustrate the SUNCOAST Hemi TC compared to the stock KJ TC - Suncoast in gray, KJ in rust
viewtopic.php?p=255007#p255007
These pics illustrate the oem stock Hemi TC compared to the stock KJ TC
viewtopic.php?p=547899#p547899

A sense of the difference in thrust can be experienced by sticking an arm out of the window at ~60mph, palm forward, fingers straight - this
represents the hydraulic coupling produced by the KJ TC straight turbine vanes - note the exertion required to keep the arm\hand in place

Now arch the fingers such that the tips are parallel to the heel of the palm, forming a cup - this represents the increased hydraulic coupling
of the curved turbine vanes - note again the exertion required to keep the arm\hand in place

Notice the strong difference in applied force in the two examples

The actual seat-of-the-pants experience is equally noticeble after installing the Hemi TC, with it's drastically-increased hydraulic hookup

The verbiage accompanying these same pics indicates the improved response resulted by installing the factory-stock oem Hemi TC (for those who only look at the pictures and wonder what's it all about)
viewtopic.php?p=547899#p547899

Further word to the wise - any used TC of unknown origin, if not previously flushed by the vendor, should always be flushed prior to installation

Edited lo, these many times, for clarity and syntax

gmctd,
After talking to my Trans Shop they actually talked me out of the SunCoast TC yesterday. With the shop having extensive experinece with this tranny and a local company that builds Torque Convertors I'm going to go with what they are recommending. It is upgraded OEM TC that they will be putting in with the transgo kit. I use my rig as a daily driver and I had came to the same conclusion that you just brought up that I don't really need to spend another $700 on the rig. Also the relationship between the Trans shop and the TC company it will be easier to get warranty work done on the TC rather then a company on the other side of the country if needed. Not saying that Suncoast wouldn't uphold their Warranty but with being in Oregon just makes this a better option.

Thanks for all the input, I should be back in the Liberty by Friday

Ok, good deal - you were able to make an educated decision by having all the information available

However, there is still one caveat:

The Transmission Control Module is an autonomous computer - it "learns" and stores your driving habits between stop and ~45mph
- learning takes several trips, and is done after engine, trans and fluid is at normal operating temperature
- engine being thermostatically controlled will come up to operating temp fairly rapidly
- transmision can take considerably longer, and is further dependent on local ambients (a trans temp gage should be mandatory for the 545RFE - yeah, I got one)
- loss of battery voltage dumps the memory

So, if you disconnected the battery, the TCM went dumb and don' kno' nuttin 'bout nuttin..........

You will have two probems when you get the KJ outta the shop:
- the trans will need the period of re-learning in order to respond normally, up-shifting and down-shifting
- cold weather will prevent rapid warmup to operating temperature: short-tripping won't do the trick
- jack-rabbit starts won't do the trick
- must be normal stop'n'go driving, even if jack-rabbit is your norm: it must learn the basic normal, first, for comparison

A series of good long drives, to bring temps up, with many start-stop sequences - stop-signs and red-lites - should return all to normal

Learning also occurs when towing - takes a series of start-stop sequences at normal operating temperatures to relearn the additional pressures and altered shift points required for towing

Re-learn is then also required when no longer towing, again taking a series of stop-start sequences at normal operating temperatures to return to pre-towing normal operation

Do you a Mopar part number of the correct Hemi converter?
Also the revised front pump?

Thanks

The alpha characters suffix are chronological designators of any production revisions: AA initial issue, AB next, AC next, etc

The parts manual usually adds the preceeding zero 04736587AC due to early computer conundrums which required all programmed numerical positions be occupied by a physical number - 0 is a physical number in digital programming

The physical part # tag will usually include a preceeding P = P4736587AC or P04736587AC

Also labeled as P0473 6587AC or\and 6587AC

Preceeding R prefix indicates oem refurbished = complete remanufacture to new specs R4736587AD

etc, eh.......................

Very glad I already got one! If I had to do it today, I would certainly opt for the Hemi TC...
You think the Jeep one is high; buy one for a Dodge Cummins, ~1,400 in the box, OUCH!!!

Gmctd you know your stuff, I was unaware of the tranny actually learning based on my driving. I drive at least 80 miles a day to work and back so getting it to setup up I would think will take a couple days at most.

ArmyChief and WWDiesel, I'll double check the Part #'s on the invoice when I go to pick the rig up tomorrow. I did stress to My mechanic about the revised parts so that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm darn glad to be getting her back on the road though, after the warranty covers the rebuild the upgrades are only costing me $700 with labor. First time I've ever cashed in on a warranty &
happy it worked

You sure about this? I've read it in many places but I've had the battery disconnected many times for as much as many days at a time and never noticed any changes in the performance so I suspected that disconnecting the battery simply causes the owner to forget how his vehicle drives. Kinda like a placebo effect.
