CRD LIFT KIT

Can some one tell me the best economy lift kit for the Liberty CRD. I do a lot of hunting and fishing and I am always hitting the front skid plate driving in old dirt roads. I just want to get it up 2" or 2.5".
I went on line and they say the kits for the Gassers will not fit the CRD. I am just looking for Spacers wondering why????

I love my Frankenlift II premium. I did need to get the JBA upper control arms too. My alignment guy was pretty impressed by those arms and it should help the ball joint last a little longer, as it is not at an extreme angle anymore from the lift. I also have beefy skid plates and Skink sliders that give me a piece of mine when I do make contact.

The OME lift is pretty nice, but not sure what your budget is. It's less than the Frankenlift, but you need to have the struts assembled. I also used the JBA UCAs and if you can save some money by getting it all from JBA. They discount the UCAs a little when bought with the lift.

On the other end of the spectrum is adding some conduit nuts above your clevis to counter the sag in your front end. That won't get you 2" but might get you 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

My question for you guys with a lift: how does the lift influence the front drive axles in wear and tear and how big of a mileage hit it will cause. I've been contemplating a lift of 2-2.5 inch but I am not sure about negative aspects, if any.

If you have 75k+ you will accelerate the wear on the CV axles since you moved there normal operating angles,pretty normal on any IFS that does not do a cradle drop to keep OE angles.

You will take a mpg hit since your higher and will most likely put on larger then stock tires which will hit the mpg more.

I've only had my lift for a couple months so I'm not sure on CV wear. It didn't change my mileage. I'm still using nearly stock tires (p235/75/r16). I plan to stick with that size.

Thanks tj, so a good idea is to also replace the drive axles when doing the lift kit. That's not hard actually once the suspension is "in the works"

Not necessary unless you see damage to the boots or damage the boots during lift install(common on CRD's).Not saying they will go out in a few weeks or months but they will go out sooner then those left at stock height.

Oh, so you say in general also. The old ones may go sooner due to the already worn "spots" that with the lift change, and the new ones would go sooner than at stock height due to them working at more aggressive angles they need to work after the lift, is that correct?

In a stock CRD the front suspension will have sagged so much by now that your CVs will actually be at an upward angle. Adding a moderate 2" lift leaves the CVs at about the same angle, only downward.

I've replaced the front suspension with brand new stock a little more than a year ago, I think I gained about 1 inch, this just eyeballing it, but not 2 inches. I think I'll go with ome when the weather warms up a bit, it's less than 850 plus shipping. Probably I'm gonna get 2 new front drive axles and keep my old as spare. I should advertise out loud what I want Santa to bring me, who knows, I may get lucky, lol.

I have had old man emu for almost 2 years and very happy with it biggest diameter tire to run without cutting about 31 inches depending on width and same for another crd i have that had a dayco on it when i got it. Dayco much cheaper but mushy feel compared to one. If you get OME you may want to get at least one spacer for front and i would recommend two you will need slightly longer bolts . I believe Dayco around 200 to $250 I believe OME about $800 to $1000 for complete kit. Uninstalled . Installation 4-5 hours and about $300.

Not worried about installation. I'll do it myself, have all the tools. I will definitely go for ome, I know they are the best. I have a skyjacker in the Cherokee and that suspension is so hard, you can break your teeth while driving that car. Very good suspension otherwise.

Agreed.

The OME lift is 1.5", but that is over stock height. With the sag that happens over the years, it's not uncommon to see more like 3"-4" of lift. No extreme CV angles either.

Another combo that has worked well for me and some others:
Ironman Springs and Bilstein Shocks. With two clevis spacers, got 2.5" of lift.
Springs are available from JBA and are availble in different load rates for the front.
Ironman springs are actually a little less expensive than the OME springs...

No drop in fuel mileage and ride is actually much better than the OEM suspension.

WTTW: any front supension repair, including lift kits, should include the k3199 V6 ball joints, replacing the oem 4-cyl ball joints installed because the 2.8L Diesel is, after all, only a 4-cyl, and couldn't possibly result in any additional wear'n'tear on them frail little joints

If you check'em, don't be shocked at the exaggerated looseness from normal wear, eh.............
