A follow-up. I quickly googled the part number and came up with this from a tuning site:

0 281 002 437 3 bar (20 kPa @ 0.4V , 300 kPa @ 4.65V)
0 281 002 845 3 bar (11 kPa @ 0.25V , 307 kPa @ 4.75V) This one is used in GM Stage 2 Sky / Solstice GXP upgrade kits sold by GM, i got this one from a forum member very hard to find for sale
0 281 002 456 3.5 bar (50 kPa @ 0.5V , 350 kPa @ 4.5V)

http://www.versatune.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=260

Can anyone make sense of what, if any, differences there are? I haven't figured out how to do the calculation yet.

1 Bar = 1 atmosphere, or ~14.696 mean Barometric pressure - I round off to 15psi to make calcs easier for me

20kpa = 2.9psi - 300kpa = 42.5psi
11kpa = 1.6psi - 307kpa = 44.5psi
50kpa = 7.5psi - 350kpa = 50.8psi

437 = 3bar x 15baro = 45psi max with low 20kpa min output = 0.4v, hi 300kpa max output = 4.65v

845 = 3bar x 15baro = 45psi max with low 11kpa min output = 0.25v, hi 307kpa max output = 4.75v so press and volts scaling has wider spread than 437 MAP

456 = 3.5bar x 15baro = 52.5psi max with low min greater than the 437, hi max greater than the 437, but lo-to-hi voltage spread is narrower at 0.5min to 4.50max

So, pressure scaling and voltage scaling varies amongst the various sensors

1 Bar = 1 atmposphere, or ~14.696 mean Barometric pressure - I round off to 15psi to make calcs easier for me

So, what do you make of compatibility between the two based on the slightly wider scale of the 845?

I wasn't quite fininshed entering data - this is more complete - and thanks for your input - I needed that

1 Bar = 1 atmosphere, or ~14.696 mean Barometric pressure - I round off to 15psi to make calcs easier for me

437 MAP 20kpa = 2.9psi - 300kpa = 42.5psi
845 MAP 11kpa = 1.6psi - 307kpa = 44.5psi
456 MAP 50kpa = 7.5psi - 350kpa = 50.8psi

437 = 3bar x 15baro = 45psi max with low 20kpa min output = 0.4v, hi 300kpa max output = 4.65v

845 = 3bar x 15baro = 45psi max with low 11kpa min output = 0.25v, hi 307kpa max output = 4.75v so press and volts scaling has wider spread than 437 MAP

So, pressure scaling and voltage scaling varies amongst the various sensors

The 456 is not compatible with the KJ system - the 845 is more compatible but will affect efficiency so I would not substitute it - long as the 845 does not fail emissions testing, and does not DTC, I'd guess it won't cause much hassle in most states, but it would affect overall fuel economy -

GDE should give final ruling on this issue, since they setup the ECM program to comply with EPA mandates

Thanks, I'm going to invite Keith into this. For what its worth, I pulled those numbers off the net and obviously can't vouch for the reliability of the source, but it seems like whoever put them in that tuning forum knew what they were talking about. I have the 845 in my Jeep. I don't get great fuel efficiency, but that hasn't really changed much before or after the 845.

Ok, good - always best to have official input on this critical stuff

Someone found that the less expensive version does not allow as much boost when used with a more aggressive tune. Anyone recall the details?

I am not sure "what's the deal" with those 2, but looking online at parts.com and moparpartsamerica.com I saw that for jeep, looking for pn 5140331aa (which is the old 437 sensor) returns 68031593aa (new sensor?). I'm not sure if this is a corporate goofup or the parts really do similar things and were interchanged. You can still buy the old Bosch from summit for about 66 bucks (which is cheaper btw than 106 at Mopar online dealer)

The 465 would skew the MAP signal enuff to limit BOOST

"Electrically the same" merely indicates the signal is scaled 0-5v to meet ECM input requirements
- the pressure range\scaling calibration determines compatibility
- f'rinstance: 0-45psi vs 0-60psi - both are still 0-5v output

I haven't checked my '05 yet, but these posts seem to indicate the '05 has the 437 pn 5140331aa (which is the old 437 sensor), but the '06s were upgraded to the 845 pn 68031593aa
- if this can be confirmed, it would be good information to have available as the '05s begin needing replacement
- could also explain the hi price of the (discontinued?) 437

FYI, the MAP sensor can be cleaned with Diesel fuel without damage - so, unless the sensor is broken during removal, or some heavy-handed shade chooses hammer and chisel over Diesel fuel, the sensor is a fairly hardly li'l beastie, capable of withstanding sudden pressure changes which would damage other sensors

Pull'em and clean'em if ya got'em, eh................

Good find on the Summit Racing part. After a quick search, I also just found the 437 sensor on Amazon Prime for $57 with free shipping! But it said only one available, so I snagged it. I'm curious to see if I get the right part. I'll probably swap out the 845 (which has been in for less than a year) and hold on to it as a spare or sell it if so.

I'm curious what the 68031593aa part refers to and what the corresponding Bosch part will be.

My original one was in pretty bad shape with broken plastic on the cage around the sensor portion. It still seemed to work fine and wasn't as dirty as I thought it would be (GDE tune might have helped clean it over 10k miles or so). But because it was broken/worn I opted to just replace with the cheap one.

Just to rain on the debate a bit per my previous post "the factory MAP senor on my 05 and my son's 06 are both the Bosch 0 281 002 437 which can be found online for about $70-$90 based on the Bosch PN" and MrMopar64 originally said that DCJ used the 845 on "newer" engines but did not specify what that meant. Could be the 07 and later VM 2.8 but I'm just guessing.

Regardless if PN68031593aa is the most recent DCJ PN for the 05/06 KJ CRD then that part appears to be the 845 and idParts has them for ca. $25.

In any case even if the "electronic" debate, which I don't pretend to understand, is valid (I presume it is) and there is some upper end boost limit (could be) as a practical matter those owners using the 845 have not reported any issues.

In any case even if the "electronic" debate, which I don't pretend to understand, is valid (I presume it is) and there is some upper end boost limit (could be) as a practical matter those owners using the 845 have not reported any issues.

Yes, probably much ado about nothing, since we know for sure that some 2006s reportedly had the 845 stock. I am not sure it is confirmed, though, that PN68031593aa is in fact the 845. Has anyone recently purchased the replacement and can confirm?

Well, the reason I one use the old part number is that I can order it today and have it at my door next day, summit has a warehouse in Talmadge oh, about 30 miles away from my house. It's just convenience. They also carry the newer sensor. The downside is that I have to pay tax...

845 would have increased upper limit in the '05s, maybe matching the '06s

Could be important that some have reported fuel mileage increase after replacement - if proven, that would be reason enuff to rush rite out and replace the 437, no matter what condition it is\was in - even if the original was crudded up, as noone reported substantial gains after cleaning\reinserting

Where are you seeing anything about the increased FE? It could also be just replacing a worn/dirty sensor with a new one.

Dirty\crudded-up does not equate to defective, which replacement of would cause significant improvement - worn equates to silicone rubber o'ring wear

In the above short-cutted case, it would have been better data if the poster had first tried cleaning the original MAP, as we all know that helps, reporting on any improvement after cleaning B4 upgrading to the new 845 part

FYI, that GM part # 55206797 does show to be the BOSCH 845 MAP on eBay - BOSCH and 845 can be clearly seen on label

I can try swapping them since I have both and see how much mileage change 845 gives me. I'll set a reminder for tomorrow since today is impossible.

Just thought about something, how is gde tune made, which sensor it uses for base tune? If they are a bit different, I'd assume the air-fuel ratio would change a bit, since both map sensors have a bit different readings. Would swapping sensors matter more than to a stock tune?
