Hello LostJeep.

I am currently shopping for a CRD KJ. I have found a few locally and plan to buy soon. One thing I really need help with is identifying a KJ with a towing package. I recall reading a while back that if a KJ has a 6 pin trailer connector then it does have a towing package. is this true? What I really want is the factory transmission cooler. Any help with ways to identify a KJ that has a transmission cooler would help. I'm trying to avoid crawling under multiple KJ's in car lots. I've used a VIN decoder but can't seem to find a decoder that specifically tells me if it has the cooler. Any help is appreciated.

Hello reddan44,
And welcome to the forum! I am also a CRD owner, and I would suggest that you direct your CRD questions to the "Liberty CRD...Love that Torque!!!" section. You will get a lot more views and feedback there. Also, are you asking about an external transmission cooler or a radiator with an integral transmission cooler? I'm not sure of the answer either way, but there is not a lot of room in front of the radiator.

Also if you haven't already read the CRD NOOB guide, it has a lot of great information in it.

Hope that helps.

Rotor thanks for directing me to a better place for info. I really wasn't worried about what exact way the transmission was cooled, be it external cooler or integral radiator/cooler. Because this isn't a 1 ton vehicle I would feel better know that I bought the KJ with the added option of some type of transmission cooler. Again I read somewhere that it was an option and I was trying to find a way to easily determine if the particular KJ that I may be looking at on a lot had the option. Also do you or anyone on the forum know if the differentials and transmission are snorkeled from the factory on KJ's ?

CRD's tranny cooler is the lower 1/4 of the AC condenser from the factory. The radiator does not contain a tranny cooler at all like a lot of gassers have. Mine has the OEM 7 circuit trailer connector and no extra coolers. Never heard of one having an extra or auxiliary tranny cooler in addition to the OEM one on the lower part of the condenser... :?:

The transfer case has a vent hose that is routed up and terminates on the firewall. I cut it and put in a "Tee" and connected the transmission vent into the same hose... Both diff's have vent hoses; probably need to be longer though if you are planning on doing any deep water crossings...

Why is that?..does the transmission vent lower?

Wwdiesel are you saying that all CRD's have the factory transmission cooler? That's all I'm looking for is a way to know if the CRD I'm looking at has some type of transmission cooler. I do not want to buy a CRD without any type of transmission cooler.

for CRD's the 'Tow package' consisted of the hitch and wiring

cooling's the same on all of them.

Well the shopping is over. I'm on vacation in Colorado Springs and found a 1 owner 05 with a clean carfax and a low 71,000 miles. Happy to be a CRD owner!
