2010 KK Heat Through Defrost Only

Hello everyone, new guy with a fairly new to me Liberty [well it's the wife's, I inherited her 97 Grand Cherokee].

The other day going to work the better half reported that there was a strangle "ch-ch-ch-ch" sound coming from the right hand side of the console, she thinks the right side but not certain. The noise increased while moving the selector knob to the left and decreased when put on defrost only. She is also telling me that at the time, there seemed to be less than normal air flow. Fast forward to coming from work, the noise was gone but the heat would blow through the defrost only, but the air flow seemed to be back to normal.

I have not been able to physically check anything yet and have been researching this as much as I can since yesterday. We became aware of "blend door issues etc." a couple days after we bought it so my wife always left the selector on the defrost/floor combo but I guess that obviously didn't help lol. As I read up on this can anyone tell me what more than likely has happened here?

Welcome to the forum 97_JGC!
Your issue is with the Mode door.
These are the doors and what they do.
Blend [hot/cold], Mode [floor/vent/defrost] or Recirc [outside/inside air]

Thank you for the reply Scar0. I found that post last night and also the post of yours on the Nitro board, that is a big big help in getting me started and I have learned loads already from your info. Now all I need to do is wait for the temps to get above 10 and I can crawl under there and see what is going on with it. My Kingdom for a heated garage.
