Although that was just a mock up of the tube running across the brackets, I can assure you the ends will be capped in the production run.

While I'm thinking about it, I'm soon coming out with a stand alone crossbar set that bolts to the factory locations. Here's a quick mockup, the 1.50" tube ends will be capped and sanded smooth. The slots in the mounts are for easy attachment of ratchet straps.

As TR911 and I already said, ends will be capped, welded, and smoothed...
ATH doesn't leave tube ends open

After years of cars and Jeeps with roof racks and bars, I really like the zero wind noise with no bars which is why I would take bars off when not needed.

Through all of this I see not mention of KK fabricator AtTheHelm! He makes functional rails and basket racks (one assembly).

His rails are fugly (especially in the "foot" area) Else I would have bought a pair.

Guess you can't win em all over..

Don't worry AtTheHelm you've got my business and that's all that matters. :jester:

the noise may be partly or wholly due to vortex shedding, which is why you see a lot of low profile roof bars.

Also, if you want a roof basket, JBA sells the Rola brand ones that fit really nicely right onto the side rails, no crossbars needed. Although it fits with crossrails too.

Do u have a link?

edit: found the rack...maybe a dumb question but when mounting a spare tire up top is there a kit to hook to the rack to sucure it so it cant be stolen?

Here is the JBA link.

You will need crossbars to mount it on, though.

AtTheHelm is the one who makes the stand-alone rack that mounts to the KK without needing side rails and crossbars.
