The accelerator pedal is simply an input into the ECU. Everything is fully electronically controlled.
For mine the rattling and smoke starts at just above -20 and gets worse at lower temperatures. The lowest I've started it will be just below -30.
Once started it only needs fuel and air to keep going. Sounds like you may have fuel delivery issues that are causing the stalling out.
The GP indicator is controlled by the ECU and is independent of the signal that is being provided to the plugs. 2 seconds on is normal but the GPs continue to burn long afterwards. For subsequent key turns the GPs are powered even though the lamp is not illuminated.
