4.56+ Carrier for Front Diff

So the shop I'm regearing at says it necessary to install a new carrier because to install 4.56s on a JK it's necessary...although, I'm told him that none of the other KKs I know of have needed new carriers because I'm pretty sure we have a 3.73+ carrier already installed...Tom? 4x4kayak? Anyone who's regeared to 4.56s? Haha

99% sure you just install gears and locker. No need for a new carrier. You could try checking the JK forums, there's bound to be guys going from 3.73 to 4.88s or 5.13s.

3.73 is the carrier break. If you go numerically higher you use the same carrier.

That was my understanding too...I guess they're just used to JKs with manuals and their lower gears and different carriers.

That and a lot of thew new JKs come with 3.21s and probably jump to 4.88 and 35s or 4.56s and 35s which means they need a new carrier.

I'd say they are a little confused . Just tell them to forget its a KK/ Liberty and pretend its a JK :wink:

3.73 is the carrier break on a JK. So your 3.73 carrier will work. Just helped a guy do some in his JK d30 3.73 to 4.88. Same carrier worked with both.

Just remind them that you already have 3.73s, and don't need a new carrier.

Haha, that's what I'll be doing since new carrier is another $130...already overspending...
