New taller tires..Throttle Position Throttle Sensor dashlite

Don't really know if it is related...but soon after the new Cooper STT PROs 245/75/16s went on my TPS Dashlight
keeps popping up. Any ideas???

There is no TPS sensor light on the dash? Do you mean the tire pressure monitor sensor which looks like a tire in cross section with an ! in the middle which is on the upper right about next to the 4,500 rpm mark on the tach? Could certainly happen with new tires and old or not quite right TPMS sensors. Or do you mean the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light which is on the left just above the fuel gauge? Shouldn't have anything to do with tire replacement (don't have a clue why I previously had "throttle control" here - duh) at least I don't think so.

If it is the Tire pressure monitor (TPMS). it could be as simple as not calibrating after mounting the new tires. You have to "learn" each tires new position if they are not put back on the same corner. The spare tire has a sensor too on some cars.
Lastly I know someone who worked for a tire dealer and he had a bad habit of destroying sensors by accident while changing tires. Maybe one got broken?

You are correct, tire dealers murder them every day!! At the dealership where I work, we encounter vehicles all the time where a tire dealer has destroyed a TPMS on their tire machine. At about a $150 apiece per wheel installed and reprogrammed, this can get real expensive real fast.... :roll:

Minor point of clarity re. TPMS sensors. The OEM part (68001696AA) seems to be about $80 on-line although it's likely substantially more at a dealer unless you have a parts counter contact. There are after market alternatives (ex. Dorman 974-001) that run ca. $30 each. Mounting is nothing more than a) mark tire/rim position, b) dismount tire from rim, c) remove old sensor and install new, and d) remount tire in same position on rim and replace on vehicle. Shouldn't cost more than $10 or so per wheel at least that's about what stoutdog has paid in the past.

There is no programming involved and has not been for any vehicle for a number of years. Back in the day when TPMS sensors first came out a magnet had to be used to tell or retell the TPMS system which wheel was in which place. This is no longer the case. Based on personal experience the OEM and Dorman TPMS sensors happily self program within a couple of miles after an install or tire rotation. I'm not saying programming is never needed, it may be, but it should not be needed if things are working right. Note when buying sensors on-line that US and European vehicles sensors operate on different frequencies.

For what it's worth TMPS battery life is supposed to be 5-12 years with an average of about 7. My 05 is still fine with the original sensors in new tires but stoutdog's 06 lost one sensor about 3 years ago so when he recently got new tires he replaced the sensors.

The Actual Moniker for the little red lightning bolt on the dash is the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) warning light. Known problem of left foot braking will sometimes set off this warning light.

"If the depressed brake pedal and the constant accelerator pedal position are maintained for an extended period of time, the ETC warning light will begin to flash ad continue until the ignition switch is cycled..." I am not appying the brake pedal while accelerating...so I guess my sensor has gone haywire :dizzy:

Decided that it might be reading some kind of "overfueling" which could also set off the ETC I think. I cleaned the MAF Sensor...didn't seem dirty at all...SEGR and GDE stuff is obviously working...

My TPMS light goes off randomly too. It was doing this with the stock wheels and tires but when I had my blizzaks put on they told me they broke one. Whatever,

Now I have the 5 moabs with 5 new dorman sensors and it still randomly goes off here and there. I am not sure why

Not talking about any Tire Pressure Sensors...Talking about the Electronic Throttle Control light...number 28 in your CRD Dash Schematic via glove box book.

I did clean the MAP and so far...fingers crossed...the warning light has stayed off.

my ETC light came on about 3 years ago,I went to the steelership they said it was done to no1 glow plug gone tits up.
still like it now. with no problems at all.

Might have to look into the glow plug scenario...check engine light on also. darn glow plugs shouldn't even be an issue after start-up...lol

if it is a glow plug the ETC ligh shut off at the next cranck with warmed engine , but return when the engine is cold

My ETC light has been coming on since they replaced glow plugs 3 years ago. Only really on cold starts. Light goes off on subsequent trips. No faults come up on diagnostics. No real problems experienced, but it is frustrating
