Good news on this. Chaos found a front axle for $250. AK once again shined light onto my learning brain. If I break a stock axle housing open, I definitely will locked. So I "downgraded" and put in a Detroit TrueTrac for the front and have an OX rear locker coming in for the rear.

TrueTrac won't be a down grade you'll love it. And from what I've read breakage occurs when a fast spinning wheel gains traction and the force is sent to the other wheel. Which possibly explains the breakage with your open diff.

My issue was that I gunned it out of a hole and coming out on top the hill the tires floated for a bit and when landed the tires were spinning and landed (and stopped spinning) and the torque broke my bearing cap and screwed up everything else.

So removed my front axle today. That's an easy job since the half shafts were out of the way haha. I also broke open the diff and checkout the ring gear. Here's youtube video of a marred and chipped ring gear...

On a good note...she's much lighter in the front now...and there's SO MUCH ROOM. Oil filter changes are a piece of cake.

That's a neat shot of the undercarriage. I think that's the first time I've ever seen the whole oil filter when it's attached to the engine! I usually can see only part of it and go mostly by feel when changing it out.

Hey, now would be the time to do any work on the power steering rack or oil pan if it needs it!

I definitely thought about painting the oil pan while it's in the open (skid is definitely back under there...)...

Very cool shot of the undercarriage!
Red shiny things, too!
Gas mileage improvements!
