Some say best to do from bottom others from top. I have no opinion given my GDE stage II turbo makes access to that area easier from top than with OEM turbo.

Hey papa, thanks for the link and pics those are really helpful. I found it best to remove from the bottom. It is a butch but do-able. Why they chose to use an Allen screw (metric #5 btw), that was the hardest for me to get loose.
I put it on the bench and cold it had resistance. I put a heat lamp on it and in just a little but it opened up, so I think I may have found the problem. I called autozone and can have on here tomorrow so I'm not pulling the one off my other jeep since its such a pain to remove. Their price was 51.00.plus tax.

Ok, here's an update on my crank shaft position sensor problem. It looks like my problem has been solved by changing out this sensor. I've run it about all week and not a single hiccup. I used one from auto zone and it is marked Bosch right on the part so should be good. I just wanted to surmise what my problem was and what all I did to fix it so it may help someone else with the same problem and won't have to read thru all the threads.
The jeep first started missing and stumbling like it would die but never would, it would pick up and take off. Most time it did this while stopped in traffic at an idle which tells me now the sensor was getting hot. Then it got to just completely shutting down at sperattic times and no pattern, then it got pretty constant shutting down just after a few miles down the road. I could let it cool and then it would start back up. Now that I know what fixed it it seem simple to point at the crank sensor but I first got caught up on the fuel thing being the problem. I ordered the parts needed and put the pump in the tank. This I'm glad I did because it gives me piece of mind on the fuel issues. This is a fairly simple task to do. There are some good post here that covers how to do it. Thank goodness for this place and all the helpful folks here.
Now to the crank sensor. Well at first I had no clue to where it was located and the parts image was different to what I was seeing so it confused me at first. The crank sensor is located on the passenger side of the block near the back. I found it best to remove from under neath. My biggest problem was my big arm wouldn't hardly fit past the exhaust pipe but I managed. There is a heat shield that covers the sensor,it is removed by using a 10mm socket and removing two bolts. With the shield out of the way you can see the plug from the sensor and barely the top of the sensor. It's hide behind a lip on the block casting. There is a bolt that holds a bracket for the plug I removed the bolt holding it using an 8mm socket. This allowed the plug to be reached much easier. Now you'll need a 5mm Allen wrench to remove the single screw that holds the sensor in place. I used a 3/8 socket Allen head it made it much easier to remove because I could get more leverage because that darn thing was tight. Be careful and don't strip out the socket head that would be awful. I then used a short L shaped Allen wrench and pried under the cord end of the sensor and it popped right out. That's pretty much on the removal just reverse to install. I used a heat lamp on the old sensor and when it got to about 120 deg it open up. My ohms reading on the old, compared to the new was the same except it would just open up when hot and close when temp dropped to about 110deg. I hope my ramblings are clear enough to help explain my problem and the steps it took to fix it. Maybe it can help the next guy out with just a little info. I'm sure glad to have had all the input from everyone. Thanks until next problem. Jeb!
