Air box hose

Has any ever had to replace the hose between the air box and turbo inlet? Just noticed today that mine has rotted off right at the turbo.

Making things worse I'm two hours from home. Can anyone recommend a bandaid until I get a new hose?

It is a very common problem on the Jeep CRD; oil entering the turbo inlet hose from the CCV over time rots the rubber of the inlet hose and causes it to fail as yours has, many on this forum have experienced the same problem...
One of the best solutions to keep most of the oil vapors out of the turbo inlet hose is to install a ProVent filter in the CCV hose an many on this forum have done...

Thanks. Figured the oil being dumped in there was a big help to that.

Any way to patch things up until I have the new hose?

This is what worked for me for a short while.

Use black RTV and a piece of old rubber bicycle tube from the bicycle shop.

Make sure all the oil is off of the broken intake hose, it must be oil free.

Old discarded bicycle tube as patching material stretched around the exterior.... try to find a rubber hose that is as close to the diameter as possible.

Use a small piece of PVC pipe as a temporary form to keep it all together and in place while it dries. I think a 2"dia. PVC pipe will work, I don't remember. I got it at the Home Depot and I brought the broken hose with me to the store to find the right diameter.

You will need a lot of time for the RTV to cure, more then 24 hours even though the directions on the RTV tube says it can cure in less time. The longer the better. Just set it and forget it. If you move the broken hose while the RTV is setting, it will not cure correctly.

Don't spare the RTV, don't be afraid to use a lot of it.

The repaired hose is on the shelf now and still intact.

I may do this with the old hose after the new one is in. There was enough straight length left so I was able to get it pushed on the turbo and clamped. Looks like it would be ok for a couple days.

So how much of a fear is dusting the engine because of this? I'm not sure how long the hose has been broke. The turbine still seems tight.
