Hello
I am new to this site and am hoping for just a little help please. I recently purchased an 05 CRD about 2 months ago off a private seller from Craigslist. From the trip home to now we've had overheating issues with it that I figured I could easily repair. So far done is MAF unplugged to turn off EGR, straight piped to reduce egt's, hayden 2905 fan, thermostat and most recent a couple homemade shrouds to go between thermostat, reservoir and turbo as it feels that's where the heat is coming from. It has plenty of proper clean coolant and only overheats when turbo boost is higher like at 70mph and when slow downed or idle it cools down pretty fast on its on. Question is new turbo or oiling problem to turbo, or something else? Also CEL was on that threw code P0101 before I disconnected the MAF sensor. Thanks in advance
Its not the turbo boost that is causing overheating, its the load on the engine.
So, are you towing a trailer, carrying a heavy load, or climbing a steep hill?
Exactly how hot is it getting? Is steam pouring out of the coolant overflow tank?
The temperature gauge is known to be mis-calibrated from the factory and there is a ECM update to correct the temp gauge calibration.
A $25 infra-red temperature gun is a easy way to check engine temps when it seems to be overheating.
Still, if its a light load, no towing, and no hills, 70mph creates plenty of airflow through the radiator. You could have no cooling fans at that speed and still remain cool.
Maybe coolant flow the problem.
Has the thermostat ever been replaced?
