All:

Took my Liberty into the shop because a power steering line developed a hole. Got the quote. The shop indicated basically everything power steering related is leaking with the possible exception of the steering rack. The shop indicated $1000 to fix: new pump, hoses, clamps, cooler lines, etc. Also, they indicated this would cause the Jeep to fail state inspection (Virginia) which I needed done too.

Does this sound reasonable? Not just price, but what they're telling me.

Also, for reference, the Jeep is 13 years old, 167,000 miles, and probably isn't worth much since it was damaged pretty significantly (but repaired) in a rear end collision.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Typically its the high pressure hose that goes bad and starts leaking.
Sometimes the low pressure hose too.
Pumps dont last forever either.

Conduct your own assessment to see exactly whats leaking and maybe you can fix it yourself.
Although I have never done the job on a liberty, I have heard that the high pressure hose can be kinda expensive.

Flash:

Thanks for the info. I'm not very mechanically inclined, so I would feel uneasy about trying to make any P/S repairs myself. The leak I saw was coming from one of the lines near the radiator. It was probably the size of a pinhole, but the pressure had the fluid coming out fast.
