Im planing on going north in a few years. In order to acomplish that i need a capible rig and trailer. Every day im getting closser and closer to an m1102 I like! Im picky on color and manufacturer. Looking for m1102 preferably or m1101 from Schutt year doesn't count to me. Theres a bunch in Massachusetts but are camo. I dont want to respray since the military paint is alot more durable then our rattle cans.

Once i buy the trailer i will be hauling it around every where to start testing. Testing needs to start as soon as possible.

Below is an m1102 or m1101. Its aluminum and weighs under 1500 lbs empty.

well, I bid on an M1102 from 1997 Raytheon... its camo, but I could possibly roll on paint later... Im not thrilled Raytheon manufactured this one but the military owns the design for the M1102 and M1101 so Silver Eagle and Schutt designs and quality are the exact same. The shock shafts are pretty nasty, so throwing on softer shocks from amazon will be worth the upgrade. probably not Gabrial shocks on trailer, but most likely some no name brand shocks since those will get beat up easily.

hope I get it! ogh, and Tom, its located in Ohio.

Progress is still being made with the trailer. I have a seller on the line with a good price so far, but the hitch and rims aren't original... so you already can tell its under a grand. I'm not going to pay for a trailer that isn't factory for a grand.

Two other sellers with original M1102s were contacted but no reply...

EDIT::: still on the look out.

While waiting for sellers within reason, ive started looking at products i need in or on the trailer. The trailer will be alot heavier then anticipated. The fridge im interested in weighs in at around 90 lbs... A fridge is 100% necicary because im not going to mcdonalds every day like i did with Florida!

Making a trip south early next month to personally check out the trailer. Its the exact trailer I wanted; tan paint, no lettering, 12 bolt rims, and title. The price is for sure right but I want to spend as little as possible for the rest of the build!

Darn it... I still need a pintle mount...

Looking forward to seeing your new trailer when you end up getting it!

I got my pintle mount from http://www.etrailer.com. I got two parts: a receiver hitch insert with a backing plate, and a pintle that bolts on to the plate at the height you want. Because the trailer is high up on 37's you will need to bolt the pintle higher than a normal hitch ball.

Quote:
And a close-up of the pintle hitch and military electrical hookup:
Image

If the trailer still has the stock military electrical setup, you might need to plan on making an adapter before you go that will allow you to connect it to your Jeep's 4 or 7 pin trailer plug. Also, you may need 12 volt bulbs for the trailer's tail lights if they are not LED's. The military electrical is 24 volts, but I believe the LED's can run at either 12 or 24.

I got the military plug end from http://eriksmilitarysurplus.com and the civilian pigtail end from http://www.etrailer.com. Here is how I made the connector:
Quote:
I got out the soldering iron today and fabricated an adaptor to connect the military trailer's 12 pole receptacle to my Jeep's 4 pole connector. My adaptor consists of a vehicle-side military receptacle and a trailer-side 4 pin adaptor (so I can just plug it into then existing vehicle-side 4 pin on my receiver hitch).

In case anyone would like to make one:
From Texas TT on FJcruiserforums:
http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/trailers-towing-tech/118774-military-civilian-trailer-adapter.html

Civilian......Military.....Function
Green........J.............RH stop and turn
Yellow.......B.............LH stop and turn
Brown........E............Tail/Running lights
White........D & L.......Ground

I verified the above using the trailer's technical manual, downloaded at:
http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/acc/m101a.pdf
I used D for the ground, after looking at the wiring diagram in the technical manual.

Bring the Gorilla Tape! If the trailer is 100% aluminum as you say, magnets will not stick to it. Lol! :P

GOOD NEWS!!!

Picking the trailer up next weekend!!! The guys asking a very reasonable price, so even if I pay his asking price, its still a steal!

I have ordered all that I need too. well, besides a 12v conversion to a 7 pin. I'll take care of that once its home in PA.

Well, im at a cross road currently. Gov planet (at the time of posting) has 70 odd some M1101's for auction. I think they all could be sold for around $600. That's a lot less then the guy im buying from... Also, another seller has a danm near perfect M1101 for sale and for $200 less then the guy im buying from.

Gov planet's auction is Wednesday morning, soo many sellers.

I guess im buying at the absolute best time for an M1101 and M1102. For them being so dang rare to find being so popular.

My trailer went for $500 when the GovPlanet auction closed... Are any of the 70 closer to you than to your guy in WV? If there is one for auction in NJ for PA then it would be a lot more convenient to go pick up. Keep in mind Gov Planet does have a admin fee on top of the purchase price. But also, they can send you all the documentation you need to get the trailer registered in PA without issues. Add $180 or so for fees plus paperwork... Pros & cons...

What all are you going to do with these trailers to get the weight down? Those things are pretty heavy aren't they?
Just curious

nothing I can do about weight unless I remove the rims... which I wont because the trailer with out the 2 piece rims look fugly. its all aluminum and chromoly. very little chromoly steel too (axle)... and 1,500 lbs isn't that bad now. its the weight once the trailer is done... I think with the RTT and extra features it will be a thousand pounds heavier. ill be getting the trailer this weekend and off-roading it the same day. also going to Rausch hopefully the following week.

Weight can be an issue but we do have a 5,000# capacity so I'm thinking a 2,000# trailer won't be too bad to lug around. I don't plan to do any rock crawling with mine, but it will see many a back country road.

There are folks on http://www.tnttt.com that take weight saving to the extreme by building their camping trailers out of a Harbor Freight frame, foam and fiberglass. I'm sure that would save some gas, but it wouldn't take a beating like a military trailer can!

Just curious , I built a 5X8 trailer years ago that I can load more firewood on than a 8 foot bed pickup can haul.
It was built by me in 1985, still going ( has been back in the woods and all over Ohio and WVa) and weighs less than 500 lb with 2 foot racks on it.
I know with it even empty I can feel it back there so was just curious with these when loaded down

This is true. You definitely need to push the Tow/Haul button to lock out overdrive on the highway, even when there is no load in the trailer.

well this should be on reddit...

bought an M1101 Saturday!

Image

pulls great after 30 mph. tires were inflated to 30 psi. I think that's to high though. tires are literally brand new. mfg date was 2014.

once night time rolls around safety was more of a concern. I had no trailer brake lights, so I stopped at the closest parts store. we were there for more then 2 hours trying to figure out a no brake light issue. turned out to be crappy trailer lights. so I bought led lights and I had brake lights...

All right!!! Looks solid, and amazing that you were able to get one as new as you did (2014)! Nice job landing that one. Now looking forward to the build!

Just curious, how wide is the M1101 compared to our KK's? Mine is a hair over 6 feet, plus a little extra for fenders.
