Today's smartphones are kinda delicate, battery life is not that great. I keep a cheap, unactivated pay-as-you-go flip phone in all my rigs. $15 Walmart LG flip has 7-9 days of stand-by time, try that with an iPhone or Galaxy. Don't need to activate them, 911 calls can be made without activation or paying anything. I'm so cheap, I didn't even pay the $15, I got a box of them for $1 at Goodwill along with cords. Unlike a smartphone, if the screen breaks, no big deal, that's what the keypad is for and if I drop it in a puddle, the battery comes out in seconds, plus you can use the battery with a wad of steel wool as a fire starter.
