I added the mechanical fan maybe a week ago. Since then the KK has been running hotter then it really should. Driving it maxes out at 213° then dips down to 202° and rises back up to 213°. Whats odd is that nothing was changed besides adding the mechanical fan. All though I do have a standard rotation blade on its pulling air through the radiator and not blowing.

I'm currently waiting for it to cool down to check radiator level but highly highly doubt its low because there has been ZERO coolant drips on the pavement.

Ideas?

Make sure your e-fan is still engaging as it should. Maybe the connection is loose from pulling the fan shroud to install the mechanical fan. The wider oscillations may show what your mechanical fan can do to keep things cool if the e-fan isn't turning on. I imagine the e-fan has tighter control over temps unless the temps are really getting up there and the supplemental fan kicks in.

203°-213° is a normal operating range.. that's not even to the center line of your temp gauge

It's been a hot summer so far so I'd say that's pretty good temps to maintain lol

I've been dealing with higher temps recently, in the 230-240 range and that doesn't trip an overheat light but it is hotter than my kk typically runs (climbing a mountain I hit 260° which is 3/4 on the temp gauge and still had no light)

I think you're within operational temperatures.

I however, have either a small coolant leak somewhere or someone is stealing my antifreeze. Going to have to find the source of that...

Thing is is that it never reached 213° while driving with the e fan only. Connecter is pluged in, comes on with the A/C still.

Lauren, can you record your temps for a day?

I looked at the part numbers in your other post and I believe you have the wrong blade there. It may feel like it's pulling air, but if it's rotating in the wrong direction it will create turbulence and cause poor airflow as it will be "fighting" with the electric fan.

Its the wrong fan blade for sure but it is pulling, not pushing. The only issue with the wrong fan is clearance from the pulleys and belt.

The electric cooling fan should not even come on till you hit 219 degrees(no AC usage),the stock clutch fan(HD cooling) does not fully lock till 230 degrees.Heck the t-stat does not fully open till 218 degrees.

As long as your under 220 degrees your good,anything above and your overheating.

I hover around ~200-210. Most I ever saw was 211 in traffic a month or 2 ago. Average around town driving is about 203, that's even during this heatwave with 85-90* temps. No tow package, just the factory electric fan.

Thermal fan clutches engage at 170°.

Mine is 90% locked up at 210°.

A 90% engagement clutch is over the top for a KK.

If a clutch fully locks up say good bye to your radiator and fan.

Seems like the e-fan high speed gave out. Low speed works but high doesn't. Havent checked fuse yet or resistance of the high side on the computer side.

Soo i have no clue whats going on, e-fan high and low now works after no messing around with the connector but its ok now.

Mechanical fan is all sorts of screwed up... I was betting on the wrong blade working but it doesnt... The diffrence between the right and rong blades is just blade pitch and slope direction. I have standard rotation blade. Which normally would push the air instead of pull on the KK engine. I have reversed the blades severl times and still push. Not sure why it pushes on both sides.

So im now betting on the problem is the blades... Reversal is absolutely necicary at this point.

got the right fan and clutch installed since my last post. temps have not gone above 206 with the AC on and heavy pedal including at idle. fan kicks on at 206, engine temp, so probably around 190 radiator temp. not so sure when its engaged at 90% though.

Kept an eye on temps using the Scangauge. It really depends on where I am driving. These temps are at about 15-30 mins into the drive or more, after stuff has a chance to warm up.

Around town:
Coolant is about 200
Trans is about 120

Interstate:
Coolant is about 204
Trans is about 148

Interstate towing:
Coolant is about 204
Trans is about 168

Hilly terrain, long climb:
Have gotten coolant up to 220
Trans up to 208 or so

Hilly terrain, towing:
About the same as above, using Tow/Haul mode.

I have the Mopar mechanical cooling fan installed.

Hi, why do you say this? My mechanical fan is on constantly even when starting cold. Is there a solution? Sometimes the coolant boils out of the reservoir, especially in summer. I don't want to say goodbye to my radiator, why would the mechanical fan cause this? Thanks.

A fan clutch is never fully locked up. Its always slipping even when it's ice cold out and you just started the jeep up or the radiator is hot as hell. No fan that I know of can withstand 6k rpm. Most of the metal blade fans highest rpm at the blades are 5k rpm and it will sound like a semi truck.

I feel loss of power with the mechanical fan, I wonder how hard or difficult will be to install another e-fan behind the grille so the outer will be pushing, and the inner will be pulling?
