Hey guys,

My 2008 KK driver door seems to have an alignment issue or something of the like.

When I open the door fully, the spring loaded bar that is supposed to hold the door open springs past the stopper and then pins the door open.

I have to use a wrench to push the piece back and then close the door.

Is there any particular procedure for re-aligning the door correctly?

How hard is this to do and will I end up causing more issues? :P

I added a photo to help show what I'm talking about.

Thanks!!

There is supposed to be a feature on the hinges that keep them from opening too far. It looks like yours has corroded to where either it over travels the stop, or the check strap (spring loaded bar) is too small to catch when open. The other thing that could have happened is the roller seized, wearing down the check.

Unfortunately the only fix is to replace the hinge. I believe the Mopar ones come black powder coated, but you can buy color matched spray online. Before unbolting anything, make sure you mark where the hinges are aligned to on the body and door, then unbolt the old, hand tighten the new and align it, then tighten it fully. It looks like the hinges are about $50 and assuming you don't care if it's paint matched, a body shop could probably do it in a half hour, so $50 in labor. If you decide to DIY, get a helper to hold the door so the weight is not all on the other hinge.
