GDE Flash Programmer Tool - Anyone have one to sell?

Not to jump in on this cuz it seems it's about to get ugly. But was this jeep in question a black limited from New Orleans?

I'm sure the oil additive from the 1920's has chemists at Exxon Mobil and Shell perplexed. Or maybe it's just a conspiracy to reduce mpg's by making crappy oil, that way they sell more oil AND more diesel.

In fact, the ingredients in these additives are probably purchased from shell and Exxon, so they win all around.

I don't know, I took my rocker arms out at 93k and they looked fantastic and so did the oil, minus the soot that appears no matter what. I don't think the sky is falling as fast as we might think.

After opening about a dozen of these engines, my guess is that when the rockers are still good, they were either previously replaced, or the owner followed a really early oil change interval. 3500ish. The rockers are almost always garbage, FWIW.

Geordi replaced the rockers on my wife's CRD at 101K miles when he installed the ARP studs. The original rockers were still in great shape. They felt as tight as the new ones. I bought the CRD with 45K miles in 5/2014. It belonged to an elderly couple that towed it behind their motorhome (Blue Ox tow bar bracket still mounted on Jeep.) I loaded the GDE FT ECO tune at 49k miles and removed all the EGR pieces/part at 61k miles. I change oil every 6k miles with Mobil 5W-40 TDT oil.

That reminds me, I should have mentioned that I am convinced that the gde tunes help tremendously, but I haven't been into any engines that had the tune for the first 100k :/

Personally, I think that disabling the EGR and using good quality 5w-40 turbo diesel oil is what's best for keeping the rockers in good shape.

At 160k miles my rockers were still in good shape.
I never had a GDE tune.
Disabled EGR at about 60k miles.
Always used Shell Rotella 5w-40.
Oil changes typically between 8k and 10k miles.

Personally, I think that more frequent oil changes along with the use of a friction modifier like Marvel Mystery Oil in the engine oil will help tremendously in alleviating the soot buildup problem in the engine oil... This hopefully will help prevent premature rocker arm wear over the life of the engine! :2cents:
