Thanks for the quick response. I am not looking for the bolt that holds the tensioner on...I was needing information for the bolt holding the pulley on the tensioner assembly. The pulley is what I want to remove.

Generally pulleys like this are generally installed with bolts threaded so that as the engine is running, the pulley is trying to tighten the bolt as it turns (because if they were threaded the other way, they might unbolt themselves from the engine). When viewed from the front bumper, the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer is turning clockwise. Looking at the belt routing diagram, the tensioner pulley would be spinning to the left (counterclockwise) which would mean that it's installed with a left-hand thread bolt (i.e. opposite of the "righty tighty, lefty loosey" rule).

I think I may have thrown out my old tensioner, but I can check if it's still sitting around waiting to be taken in for scrap and see which way the bolt loosens.

Edit: I found the old tensioner and it appears to be right hand thread, so I think I may have been wrong about this.

I'm pretty sure you're correct, idler pulleys are clockwise unscrew and counterclockwise screw. All other pulleys for the serpentine belt tie/untie normally.

Completely makes sense. That is the logic I used when I started turning the bolt the first time. I 'll continue...hopefully we're all right. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks

Thanks

Hint: you use a wrench on the idler bolt to relieve the tension
Alternate logic!
Bonus hint: you can see the end of the bolt sticking out the back of the assembly.

Don't try too hard in the wrong direction.

So I found my old tensioner and while I couldn't get enough leverage on it to remove the bolt, the bit that is sticking out the back appears to be a standard right hand thread. In other words, I think I was wrong in my post above.

Also I found this:

I took the pulley off the tesioner and the bearing seems fine. The pulley is indeed a right-hand thread.

Edit: Dang, I should've just searched around on here in the first place. Here's another one:

The bolt is a standard thread. Left loosey.
